Greater Wellington calls for community views on public transport fares
- 17 Jun 2022

Greater Wellington’s Transport Committee Chair Roger Blakeley says, “one of our strategic priorities outlined in the Regional Public Transport Plan 2021 is to increase mode shift. The new fare types and potential zoning changes have real potential to encourage people out of their cars and onto public transport.”

Released Letter was the Red Light for LGWM
- 2 Jun 2022
- Wellington Employers' Chamber of Commerce
- ABOUT ADVOCACY EVENTS & TRAINING MEMBERSHIP SERVICES & RESOURCES NEWS & INFO CONTACT HomeNews & InfoReleased Letter was the Red Light for LGWM Today’s ‘secret’ letter release disappointingly confirms what was long suspected - that Ministers meddled with the original Let’s Get Wellington Moving plans, which were recommended by Officials and backed by Wellingtonians. "This letter has delayed much-needed Wellington transport projects by more than a decade," says Simon Arcus, Wellington Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive. "It calls into question the extensive prior consultation, and possibly subsequent consultations, effectively steamrolling the views of Wellingtonians and businesses. The Chamber alone has made 18 submissions on transport related consultations since 2013.

Bike network plan | Projects - WCC Transport Projects
- Creating a citywide network of connected bike and scooter routes in tandem with walking improvements and big public transport changes will make that possible. This is an ambitious plan. We must act swiftly to change how we move around to reduce the city’s carbon emissions and get the network completed in 10 years. To help us get there, we’ll be making interim improvements where we can, using lower-cost materials and involving local communities. The bike network plan includes finishing Tahitai, the walking and biking connection around Evans Bay between Miramar and the central city, and The Parade upgrade in Island Bay.

The Parade | Projects - WCC Transport Projects
- The proposal – to make The Parade safer for everyone The proposed changes will make The Parade safer and more accessible for everyone, particularly in the narrowest areas. The changes will provide greater separation between bikes and cars, with a continuous protected route for people on bikes and scooters between Dee and Reef streets, and encourage more people to choose low-carbon ways of getting around. Greater visibility at intersections and driveways, slightly wider traffic lanes and a consistent street layout will make it easier for drivers to negotiate The Parade, and improve the look and feel of the street. There will be two new dual crossings at footpath level for pedestrians and people on bikes, and a new layout through the 30km/h zone will add separated bike lanes, provide more footpath space in some places and reduce vehicle speeds.
