Why are Labour's councillors doing Steven Joyce's dirty work?
- Save the Basin Reserve!
- The two Labour councillors on the Wellington City Council, Paul Eagle (Southern Ward) and Leonie Gill (Eastern Ward) enthusiastically got in behind to kowtow to the NZ Transport Agency's demands, and were firm backers of last week's extraordinary Council meeting. The purpose of the meeting was to do one thing, and one thing only - to make sure the Wellington City Council was lined up solidly behind Joyce's roading vision, whilst embarrassing a Mayor who had campaigned on better public transport. Joyce must have had a huge laugh watching these Labour patsies doing his dirty work.

The letter we actually needed
- Save the Basin Reserve!
- Now that the NZ Transport Agency has got the letter it wanted from the Wellington City Council supporting the Ngauranga to Airport Corridor Plan, how about they reciprocate and provide the plans they've denying Wellingtonians for the last two years? In fact, if he really wanted to be a champion for the Basin Reserve, pro-roading WCC councillor John Morrison could get nine of his peers to support an extraordinary meeting, where the Council could decide to send a letter to the NZ Transport Agency demanding they release the designs for the Basin Reserve flyover immediately. Now that really would be putting your money where your mouth is! Or is John Morrison only ever a lion when it comes to building roads? read more

Nine WCC councillors: lap-dogs of the NZ Transport Agency?
- Save the Basin Reserve!
- The Dominion Post is reporting that nine self-styled "rebel" Councillors have forced an extraordinary meeting of the Council, in order to drive through acquiescence to the NZ Transport Agency's demands for unqualified Council support for their roading projects - before any designs have been tabled.

Wellington Motorway Decision Uproar
- Auckland Trains
- The issue of Wellington’s future motorway development is getting hotter. The new Mayor is not a big fan of a flyover near the Basin reserve but a group of her councillors are. Following reports some in the NZTA were getting unsettled about the Mayor’s failure to commit to their plans, the councillors have forced through a special meeting on Wednesday for the council to make a call.

Missing the bus
- Wellington Scoop
- Fran Wilde said on Friday that real-time information for Go Wellington buses will be “a great milestone” for public transport because it will tell us when our bus is arriving “as opposed to when it’s scheduled to arrive.” I can’t help thinking that a more worthy milestone would be: just make the buses run on time. The region’s real time information system is costing $9.7million, according to Mayor Celia Wade-Brown quoted in the DomPost. It’s going to provide electronic displays on 190 of the region’s 3000 bus stops.

Snapper for trains?
- WCC Watch
- Very interesting revelation in today’s Dom Post that the GWRC is missing out on about $9,000 in train fares every weekday because the trains are too crowded for ticket collectors to get to the patrons… It was revealed today that Greater Wellington regional council has lost about $260,000 as overcrowding on trains prevents staff from collecting fares.
