Bikes on Buses in the draft GWRC Long Term Plan
- Cycling in Wellington
- Greater Wellington Regional Council has included the implementation of bike racks on buses in its draft Long Term Plan, to be investigated and implemented where practical starting in 2017. It has been included in the ‘out years’ of the plan in order that high priority (and costly) upgrades to the rail commuter network may be completed in the short term. It is hoped that the provision of bike racks on buses will encourage cycle commuting by providing a safe, fall-back option for cyclists who are caught out by bad weather, failing light or mechanical problems.

More Matangi In Service
- Auckland Trains
- Today, Matangi services more than doubled on the Kapiti and Hutt Valley lines – increasing from the current 14 daily return trips to more than 30 return trips every weekday. Tranz Metro Manager Scott Brooks, calls it great news for commuters “who we know have felt the impact of service disruptions over the last couple of weeks, and we are very pleased to be able to bring them some good news.”

The obligatory election commentary
- Wellington Region Cycleways
- On Saturday this site has to go off-line for the day so to stay within the electoral laws (I don’t understand why, and it seems pretty dumb to me) and I hope you all turn the voting experience into a positive activity, by walking or cycling to your nearest booth and casting your ballots.

Dealing with Wgtn traffic on a wing and a prayer
- Architectural Centre Inc
- I’ve been re-thinking. What if, concerning the whole Basin/Option X thing, we went right back to the fundamentals of the situation and began from there? Forget flyovers and tunnels, Options A, B, X, X+, and KY(!); forget Sussex Street, Memorial Park, and even the Basin itself. What are the fundamental issues?

Mandatory helmets, cycling policies and who to vote for.

Rimutaka Incline Railway Group proposes reinstating steam train to Manhattan’s High Line
- Wellington Region Cycleways

Getting it as right as we can

- One of the interesting aspects of Wellington.Scoop’s ‘getting it right’ debate about local government reform for the Wellington region is that the choices are not clear cut, whatever the values that dominate one’s approach.

Good advice to the Regional Council: withdraw your support for the flyover

Transmission Gully – knight in shining armour or Trojan horse?
- Sustainable Wellington Transport
- I have a friend who lives at Paekakariki. When he bought his house it was a small, quiet seaside town. Now it is a small seaside town, but not quiet. The main road traffic roars past day and night, ruining his peace. And there are many people in Pukerua Bay, Plimmerton, Mana, and Paremata telling the same story. It is these people who have been pushing for the Transmission Gully Motorway (TGM) – the knight in shining armour that will rescue them from the traffic baddie.

Shame on the Regional Council – it supports the flyover, but seems unhappy with its decision
- Wellington Scoop
- After a process that didn’t seem to satisfy anyone except Fran Wilde, the Regional Council will tell the NZ Transport Agency that it supports a 380-metre concrete bridge from the Mt Victoria Tunnel alongside the Basin Reserve to the Tory Street traffic lights.
