Sandhills Motorway cycleway provisions
- Wellington Region Cycleways
- The NZTA has released a video with a fly-through of the proposed Kapiti Expressway/Sandhills Motorway/ Mackays to Peka Peka route: Here are my observations of what I can see in the video with regards to the cycling provisions: The cyclepath seems to follow close to the motorway along the bottom of the Raumati Escarpment north of Mackay’s Crossing.

The main road runs through Newtown, but the criticism is about a traffic island
- Wellington Scoop
- The main streets of Newtown are being converted into State Highway One for four nights every week from now till the end of the year, while the NZ Transport Agency is closing the Mt Victoria tunnel for repairs. But it wasn’t all the extra traffic that upset Newtown locals last week – it was the Agency’s decision to remove a traffic island from Riddiford Street.

Hobbit annoys Councillors

- It seems some of the Wellington councillors are annoyed they’re getting a bit of unwanted feedback about their support for Steven Joyce’s (and lets not forget John Key’s) support of the Roads of National Significance.

The sad demise of Valparaíso’s ascensors
- Wellington Region Cycleways
- I’ve visited Valparaíso a couple of times, the last time being in 2008, and I made a day of riding all the ascensors, which are, and increasingly were, cable cars for getting up onto the surrounding hills.

Things to come on the harbour’s edge
- Wellington Scoop
- Amongst all the details of new roads and ramps and car parks, there’s some enthusiasm about cycling and walking in the Regional Council’s new ten-year plan for transport from Ngauranga to Te Marua. In particular, there’s a strong recommendation for a good quality cycling and walking route between Ngauranga and Petone. Regional Council chair Fran Wilde says it is one of the major projects in the plan.
