Matangi Train on new inaugural fare paying run – Footage
- HuttNZ
- Well, it arrives. The new Matangi train is not an urban myth, as footage below shows it on its first run ex Wellington 9.00am. Only two carriages, as was also expected. Didn’t get onboard, but had a sneak peak inside from the outside. Got to laugh wondered why the door didn’t open, you need to press the button, modern.

Commuter Newsletter
- East by West Ferry
- As you can well imagine it has been an eventful week with the incident involving the City Cat a week ago on Wednesday 2nd March 2011. For those on board the 8.05am sailing from Days Bay to Seatoun, it was a very frightening experience to say the least when the bow windows broke as the ferry encountered an unusually large and unanticipated wave just offshore from Scorching Bay on the Miramar Peninsula.

The disappearance of nine car parks, and the decline of a heritage shopping precinct
- Wellington Scoop
- n November 2008, road works were started to resurface and widen Riddiford Street in Newtown, from the southern end to the heritage shopping precinct at the intersection of John Street and Adelaide Road. The contractor put up a sign saying the work would take a month. But it took two and a half months, finishing about the middle of February 2009.

Gerry Brownlee – please cancel Transmission Gully
- Eye of the Fish
- There is a road proposal, with a cost to benefit ratio that flies out the window, for a road that goes up an earthquake fault line, is steeper for longer than Ngauranga Gorge, and is going to cost over a billion $$, which neither central nor local government has the money to finance. On a list of projects that need to be cancelled to pay for the rebuilding of Christchurch, I’d put this one right at the very top. Wouldn’t you?
