- Wellington Scoop

NZ Bus disappointed with GWRC trolley buses decision
- Go Wellington
- NZ Bus is disappointed with today’s decision by Greater Wellington Regional Council to phase out trolley bus services in 2017. NZ Bus Chief Executive Zane Fulljames says that the Regional Public Transport Plan (RPTP) has made steps in the right direction to improving Wellington’s public transport network but time will tell if the Council has got the trolley decision right.

All Wired Up but Going Nowhere Fast

- I have been wittering on the while about the constant de-wiring of trolley buses just down from our house at the Reef Street turning circle on the No 1 Route from the Railway Station to Island Bay.

Still Off its Trolley
- Keith Johnson
- I have been out an about 'on the stump' campaigning and will splice in a few local issues that are coming up in conversations with voters.First, those clanking Trolley Buses are becoming even more unreliable as they constantly de-wire.

Look mum, no poles! Wellington’s trolley buses now have batteries
- Poneke
- The photo above is of Designline trolley bus 363 about to enter the Mt Victoria Tunnel en route to Miramar, Route 2. Of course, there are no trolley wires through the Mt Vic tunnel. Route 2 runs through the wired Hataitai bus-only tunnel.

A belated and shamefully unremarked 60th birthday greeting to Wellington’s darkest secret, its trolley buses
- Poneke
- The 40th anniversary of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin making the first Moon landing reminded me I’d completely overlooked another anniversary as close to my heart as that long ago great leap for mankind.

Go Wellington gets three more old diesel bangers for the trolley routes
- Poneke
- Further evidence of the desire of all concerned to marginalise Wellington’s trolley buses is hardly needed, but wait, there is still more.

Blunder over the wires means weekend trolley buses will not resume. Why am I not surprised?
- Poneke
- Weekend trolley bus operations will not resume, despite Wellington ratepayers and taxpayers paying $9 million a year to run these expensive buses seven days a week from first bus to last.

Lack of trolleys due to “teething problems”
- Poneke
- Since my post this morning about the continuing lack of trolley buses on the wired routes, I’ve been told by a reliable source that Go Wellington is having “teething problems” with its new Designline trolleys and many are off the road.

On the Buses
- Eye of the Fish
- While I’ve been quite impressed by the new trolley buses in Wellington, one gleaming in its paua-shell colour-scheme as it slides silently through the city, I still have a hankering for a double-decker, which are fairly common throughout England, and of which we seem to have one roaming solo in the streets of Wellington.

Life in the City
- The Wellingtonista
- I know we all love trolley buses (and can't wait for the flash new three-axle jobbies to start ripping it up along Kent Terrace) but this must have been horrendous to be involved in at 5.15 yesterday afternoon. And deeply amusing for those of NOT involved, of course.

Back on track: rants and raves
- WellUrban
- There's a lot going on regarding transport at the moment. First of all, if you believe that shutting down the trolley buses is a bad idea, then there's a public meeting at 3pm this Sunday to discuss what to do about it. Where? At the Aro Valley Community Hall, of course.

Trolleyed
- WellUrban
- I really haven't had the time or inside information to look into who's right and wrong in the trolley bus funding spat. I can't tell whether there are genuine disagreements over costings, whether it's a petty squabble over who does what, or whether the various parties are just bluffing in an attempt to force someone else to pay.

Survey on $15 million trolley bus cost
- Kilbirnie, Lyall Bay, Rongotai Progressive (Residents) Association
- There is potential for ratepayers to foot the $15 million bill (in addition to the current $4million annual subsidy over diesel buses), so we would like to get your opinion on this subject. Wellington's trolley buses future is uncertain as lines company Vector and Stagecoach battle over an $15 million upgrade of "potentially unsafe" power substations.
