Not just a bookshop
- Wellington Scoop
- As Wellington mourns the loss (at the end of March) of one of its oldest bookshops, there’s agreement that Vic Books is in fact … not just a bookshop.

What’s going on at Te Motu Kairangi?
- Wellington Scoop
- Ian Cassels’ Wellington Company and Taranaki Whānui need to throw a much clearer light on their development plans for the Miramar Peninsula/Te Motu Kairangi, as reported in a front-page DomPost article, beyond PR puffery. At present, the waters are decidedly murky.

A park? Or houses? Or both?
- Wellington Scoop
- A regional park above Shelly Bay on the Miramar Peninsula? Or houses? Or is there room for both? A DomPost report today says that hundreds of new homes could be fast tracked on the Peninsula. Michael Daly writes that iwi Taranaki Whānui and developer Ian Cassels are applying for consent to build 600 to 700 houses on 8 hectares of the former Mt Crawford Prison which closed in 2012.

A year of slips
- Wellington Scoop
- It was Wellington’s year of slips. There were 900 EQC claims for land damage in Wellington, after the exceptional winter rain. MetService’s weather station in Wellington had its wettest year since records began in 1928. The city council counted 550 slips in a six week period, 150 of them within two days

The honeymoon is over
- Wellington Scoop
- The newly-elected Wellington City Council is now two months old, which is more than enough time for a honeymoon. This Council gives me a really itchy feeling regarding transparency and its public relations capability. It feels like the wrong priorities are still being brought to the table.

Priority: reliable buses
- Wellington Scoop
- The Regional Council has today given me the job of Transport Chair. My top priority is a reliable bus service and, to achieve that, I’ll have a laser-like focus on building up the driver workforce. I also want to make sure our transport network is accessible and affordable to everyone. At the same time as we fix these immediate problems, we also need to prepare Wellington for the future. I’ll be working to accelerate delivery of mass transit through the city so that as Wellington grows we can all get around smoothly, safely and in clean, low emission way
