A celebration at Unity Books, and other favourite places
- Wellington Scoop
- Wednesday will be a day of celebration at Unity Books in Willis Street, marking the end of months of renovations. Bigger! Brighter! Even better! The new Unity Books has a wider, more welcoming facade, a lot more window space to entice pedestrians to stop, and a lot more space for browsing and buying.

The disappearance of nine car parks, and the decline of a heritage shopping precinct
- Wellington Scoop
- n November 2008, road works were started to resurface and widen Riddiford Street in Newtown, from the southern end to the heritage shopping precinct at the intersection of John Street and Adelaide Road. - Wellington Scoop
- Reports this weekend have confirmed that the money troubles faced by the owners of the Whitcoulls and Borders bookstores are likely to leave empty retail spaces not only in Lambton Quay. The future could also be uncertain for Wellington’s other big Whitcoulls stores, in the Readings complex in Courtenay Place, at the airport, and in Queensgate, as well as others throughout New Zealand.

Wellywood: good idea, dreadful idea
- Wellington Scoop
- It’s a great idea to put a Hollywood-style sign on the Miramar peninsula. But it’s a dreadful idea for the sign to use the cliched “Wellywood” word, which does nothing except show that we are hankering after older and bigger film industries rather than having confidence in our own identity and our own name.
