Death threat for kororā of Shelly Bay

- Shelly Bay is an important nesting site for Aotearoa’s endangered little blue penguin, the kororā. When the Wellington City Council granted resource consent for the Wellington Company’s huge luxury housing development on this site, it accepted the word of ‘experts’ Dr Roger Uys and Brent Tandy that ‘the adverse effects on little blue penguins/kororā will be avoided, and are likely to be less than minor’. As we now see, these views were demonstrably incorrect.

Raising money, spatially

- Last week I attended another public meeting about the Draft Spatial Plan, this one organised by Inner City Wellington at St Peter’s on Willis Street. We heard speakers including our Mayor and Councillor Pannet. Through the murky fog of these last few months of public presentations, debates, zoom meetings, submissions, lobbying, etc, all is now crystal clear: It’s About The Money.

For sale: a home of the little blue penguins
- Wellington Scoop
- Consistency must count for something in Mayor Kerry Prendergast’s strategy, but it was conspicuous by its absence in a 24-hour period this week. On Tuesday, she honoured Forest & Bird and their project to save little blue penguins. One day later came her action to remove from city ownership and protection a piece of land that is a home for some of those same little penguins.
