Coastguard Mana

Coastguard Mana is an affiliated member of Coastguard New Zealand and is a Unit of Coastguard Central Region. We are based at the Mana Cruising Club / Mana Marina on the west coast of the North Island, just up the road from Wellington. Our area of responsibility covers the Mana inshore recreational area and the northern end of Cook Strait across to the top of the Marlborough Sounds.

It swung around and damaged the yacht behind it. The Harbour Master requested us to help secure the vessel and MR2 put it back on the pole with a new line.  It was later discovered that the vessel planks had been damaged and it was taking on water.       • Operation Details Date/Time:  Sun, 07/11/2021 - 18:30 - 21:30 Operation Type:  CG Operation (good samaritan) People Assisted:  6 Total Volunteer Hours:  12 Whilst searching for a vessel that had broken down with 4 pob and requested a tow home as a non-member we discovered another one that had broken down on "the  bridge" near Mana Island. We marked their location and told them we would be back for them once we had located the first vessel.  We found the first vessel under tow by someone else coming back into the channel. MR1 with 5 x crew responded Sea conditions were very rough and confused, wind gusting 45 knots, breaking seas of 2.5-3.5 metres in the navigation channel and the route to Titahi Bay. A call was made to CG Mana base to not send MR2 on the tasks as the seas were to dangerous for the smaller CRV. MR1 carried out a barrier patrol and creeping line search of the S.A.D area. Nothing was located Search was called off by Police.       • Operation Details Date/Time:  Fri, 22/10/2021 - 21:00 - Sat, 23/10/2021 - 01:00 Operation Type:  SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted:  8 Total Volunteer Hours:  24 Big Ben a 6 metre vessel broke down at Pipinui point after a fishing & diving excursion. Engine would not start. "Sea Patrol" vessel assisted on scene and supplied fuel but engine still would not fire (unknown problem) Big Ben was at anchor and Sea Patrol stood off in support with their tender in the water. MR1 was sent to the scene and started the recovery actions. Big Bens crew was split with 4 on MR1 and 4 remaining on board.
