Coastguard Mana / March 2011
Coastguard Mana is an affiliated member of Coastguard New Zealand and is a Unit of Coastguard Central Region. We are based at the Mana Cruising Club / Mana Marina on the west coast of the North Island, just up the road from Wellington. Our area of responsibility covers the Mana inshore recreational area and the northern end of Cook Strait across to the top of the Marlborough Sounds.

- Operation Details Date/Time: Sun, 27/02/2011 - 14:30 - 17:00 Operation Type: SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted: 2 As Trust Porirua Rescue was coming back from the Overload job they were called to the 30' cutter "Clare" at the North end of Mana Island. Clare with 2 POB had engine failure and could not make safe harbour. TPR assisted her into Mana Marina. Yacht shepherded back to Wellington

- Operation Details Date/Time: Sun, 27/02/2011 - 06:00 - 14:30 Operation Type: CG Operation (good samaritan) People Assisted: 2 Porirua Rescue stood by the 9 metre yacht "Overload" this morning she was participating in the 2 handed around North Island race and damaged her shift keel mechanism in heavy seas North of Kapiti on Saturday. Horowhenua and Kapiti Coast units were involved in shepherding the yacht down to a safe anchorage overnight. The Coastguard Mana Incident Management Team became involved late Saturday evening and made contact with the yachts master and with members of the Mana Cruising Club for advice on getting "Overload" which draws 2.7 metres into safety at Mana. Dinghy broken down off Pukerua Bay

- Operation Details Date/Time: Tue, 22/02/2011 - 21:00 - 23:50 Operation Type: SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted: 3 During training a report came in of a dinghy that had broken down up at Pukerua Bay with three people on board. CRV Pelorus took some new recruits off Trust Porirua Rescue (that had been training) and TPR immediately responded to the scene. Light was fading by this stage and finding the dinghy in the dark was very difficult as they did not have any form of lighting or signalling equipment with them, no VHF, and their cellphone battery was dying - an all too common occurance!
