Coastguard Mana / March 2013
Coastguard Mana is an affiliated member of Coastguard New Zealand and is a Unit of Coastguard Central Region. We are based at the Mana Cruising Club / Mana Marina on the west coast of the North Island, just up the road from Wellington. Our area of responsibility covers the Mana inshore recreational area and the northern end of Cook Strait across to the top of the Marlborough Sounds.

Runabout with electrical problems

- Operation Details Date/Time: Sun, 10/03/2013 - 16:00 - 20:15 Operation Type: SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted: 4 Total Volunteer Hours: 29 A runabout experienced electrical failure while 6 nautical miles SW of Kapiti Island. They were still able to contact Maritime Radio via their VHF radio and a callout was activated. Coastguard Mana dispatched CRV Trust Porirua Rescue to assist, but by the time they got there another vessel had supplied them with another battery and got them started. TPR escorted both vessels back to Mana. Vessel breakdown off Mana Island

- Operation Details Date/Time: Thu, 07/03/2013 - 09:30 - 13:30 Operation Type: SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted: 3 Total Volunteer Hours: 20 A 5 metre runabout broke down in the middle of the northern part of Cook Strait. Total engine failure, all safety gear on board, good conditions. The initial recovery was performed by a fishing vessel with the tow handed to Coastguard Mana once on-scene.
