Coastguard Mana / February 2020

Coastguard Mana is an affiliated member of Coastguard New Zealand and is a Unit of Coastguard Central Region. We are based at the Mana Cruising Club / Mana Marina on the west coast of the North Island, just up the road from Wellington. Our area of responsibility covers the Mana inshore recreational area and the northern end of Cook Strait across to the top of the Marlborough Sounds.

    • Triple Unit Tow from Foxton to Mana
      • Operation Details Date/Time:  Wed, 26/02/2020 - 11:30 - 15:30 Operation Type:  SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted:  1 Total Volunteer Hours:  16 A yacht that started it's journey from Tauranga, destined for Marlborough Sounds, left Whanganui yesterday afternoon and then ran into mechanical difficulty 21 NM off shore from Foxton Beach. Coastguard Manawatu went out and towed him towards Kapiti Island, where Coastguard Kapiti took over the tow. Coastguard Mana then went out and took over the tow from from south of Kapiti Island and brought him into Mana Marina where he will be able to arrange repair.       • Operation Details Date/Time:  Sun, 09/02/2020 - 15:50 - Mon, 10/02/2020 - 18:30 Operation Type:  CG Operation (good samaritan) People Assisted:  2 Total Volunteer Hours:  26 CG member on "Fin Addict" had an engine problem, vessel was safely anchored in good conditions near Rock Point MR1 responded, located vessel, attached the tow and returned all safely to the Mana Cruising Club small boat ramp Great day to be on the water and a good experience for our crew who train reguarly to support our members  Vessel Details Length:  6.50m Resources Attendees:  Weedoogie

      • Operation Details Date/Time:  Sun, 09/02/2020 - 10:40 - Mon, 10/02/2020 - 00:40 Operation Type:  SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted:  1 Total Volunteer Hours:  98 A 9m yacht broke it's mooring line in the channel and drifted with the incoming tide onto the rail bridge. Police contacted Rail who sent contractors to shut down the train overhead power and earthed it to make it safe. We towed it off the bridge and took it back to the breastworks in Mana Marina.
