Coastguard Mana / December 2011
Coastguard Mana is an affiliated member of Coastguard New Zealand and is a Unit of Coastguard Central Region. We are based at the Mana Cruising Club / Mana Marina on the west coast of the North Island, just up the road from Wellington. Our area of responsibility covers the Mana inshore recreational area and the northern end of Cook Strait across to the top of the Marlborough Sounds.

45ft yacht with mechanical problems

- Operation Details Date/Time: Wed, 28/12/2011 - 20:30 - Thu, 29/12/2011 - 01:30 Operation Type: SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted: 3 Total Volunteer Hours: 50 Assisted a Cavilier 45', 18 tonne, yacht with mechanical problems off Mana Island to get to safe mooring. Vessel located and towed to mooring behind Mana Island. Moored off and mechanic taken on board the following morning of 29/12. Engine successfully started. No further support required. Actual time (5 hrs) was split across two days, but is reported as a single block here. Vessels entangled on swing moorings

- Operation Details Date/Time: Thu, 01/12/2011 - 18:00 - 19:00 Operation Type: CG Operation (good samaritan) People Assisted: 2 Total Volunteer Hours: 5 Assisting the Harbour Master and the owners of two yachts that had swung onto each other and become entangled on their swing moorings by the bridges at Mana. The dinghy davits on one vessel had caught on the stays of another and they were pushing against each other in the strong current.
