Coastguard Mana / May 2021

Coastguard Mana is an affiliated member of Coastguard New Zealand and is a Unit of Coastguard Central Region. We are based at the Mana Cruising Club / Mana Marina on the west coast of the North Island, just up the road from Wellington. Our area of responsibility covers the Mana inshore recreational area and the northern end of Cook Strait across to the top of the Marlborough Sounds.

    • Tow 40 foot launch from Fishermans table to marina
      • Operation Details Date/Time:  Wed, 26/05/2021 - 13:25 - 18:55 Operation Type:  CG Operation (good samaritan) People Assisted:  4 Total Volunteer Hours:  27 Vessel broken down at Fisherman's Table, in 30 metres water.  Tried battery pack to start with no luck.  Towed to Outer Reef then MR1 transfered tow and took to berth on A pier.  All went well average speed 3 knots,5 knot wind slight seas.     • Move H28 from F pier to travelift
      • Operation Details Date/Time:  Tue, 25/05/2021 - 18:30 - 21:45 Operation Type:  CG Operation (good samaritan) People Assisted:  2 Total Volunteer Hours:  16 Move Summer Winds (H28) from berth F Pier to travelift Bay.  Wind 10knots gusting 15 SE.  Cloud and king tides.       • Operation Details Date/Time:  Mon, 17/05/2021 - 18:30 - 21:30 Operation Type:  CG Operation (good samaritan) People Assisted:  2 Total Volunteer Hours:  15 Prepared to move H28, wind gusting 25 to 30 knot NW.  Route to berth varable wind direction, vessel on inide corner of fairway sticks out by a metre making turning with NW hazardous.  Finger on Western side with vessel with prominent anchor protruding outside berth pole line.  Too high a risk to attempt so aborted.  Stopped at 2 x yachts with bad hallard slap and remedied.  Went through two fire drills and an abandon ship.     • Removal of log navigation hazard
      • Operation Details Date/Time:  Sun, 16/05/2021 - 08:30 - 12:30 Operation Type:  CG Operation (good samaritan) People Assisted:  0 Total Volunteer Hours:  24 A large log was reported to be partially submerged, but stuck in the same position, near Plimmerton Boating Club that was a significant boating hazard. The Harbour Master asked us to attempt to recover it to remove the hazard.
