Hi
- Karori Baptist Church
- We have recently held our annual Recommitment Service for our KBC Prayer Partners Ministry. I’m delighted that we have 86 committed Prayer Partners for 2008, uniting in prayer for the life and mission of this Karori Baptist Church community. The Prayer Partners’ Ministry involves people committing themselves for a year to partner with me and the other leaders in the church in praying to see God work significantly in, amongst and through us.

Drinking in the streets
- The Wellingtonista
- The Masked Barfly has joined the problem drinkers in Cuba Mall. No, I haven't started quaffing meths or wrestling diners for their steaks (it's all a filthy lie): Good Luck have gone overground and now have an outdoor drinking area in the middle of the mall.

Follow Up: Athfield at Kumutomo
- Eye of the Fish
- Having finally made my way down to the Waterfront Information Center, I was able to take more of a broad look at the Athfield Kumutomo wins. The pictures and write-up shown in the Dom really don’t give a full idea of the scheme, so here is something of a brief second look at the project. Apologies for the poor picture quality, need to start getting us those press releases.

Oriental Rooflines
- Eye of the Fish
- Architecture + (plus what, one may ask, to complete the equation), have been one of the busiest architects in the city of late, barring Athfields and Archaus of course. They have recently unveiled the Republic 2 apartments, close on the tail of the Republic (1), which itself followed quickly behind the Monument, which followed the Piermont, and that followed the Portal. Someone’s been spending long hours at work!

They’re big, they’re scary, and they’re coming to a sanctuary near YOU!
- Karori Sanctuary Trust
- On Sunday 17 February, up to 100 Cook Strait giant weta (Deinacrida rugosa) from Matiu/Somes Island are being released into the wild at Karori Sanctuary. This is the second in a series of four planned releases at the world-first wildlife sanctuary, which hopes to establish mainland New Zealand’s first viable population of the species since they became extinct here over a century ago.

Light Rail Redux
- Eye of the Fish
- In my last post, I expressed concerns with the light-rail proposal as detailed in the Ngauranga-to-Airport (N2A) strategic study. Implicit in my statement at the end of the post that “I have a hard time getting behind this light rail proposal at this point in time” is the fact that a different time or a different proposal could indeed change my mind.

Wow Indeed
- Eye of the Fish
- Athfield Architects have scooped the waterfront prize-pool, with a clean sweep win of all the sites covered in the Kumutoto North competition. Well done indeed to Ath and his merry band of cliffside dwellers. Wellington Waterfront also deservers kudos for having running a competition in the first place, and for sneaking out the press release a mere 5 months after the competition was held.
