Let’s Get Wellington Moving: please, councillors, keep your eyes on the prize
- Talk Wellington
- A bunch of WCC councillors are poised to throw not just the proverbial baby, but our whole reproductive system out with the bathwater. Sounds stupid? It is. Yet here we are, so please help keep their eyes on the prize! What’s happening on Thursday? Wellington city councillors have to vote whether to support or oppose...

Review: 35mm
- The Wellingtonista
- By Talia Carlisle Everyone is talking about 35mm, and it’s not a measurement, but a movement it seems, from the sound of new fans I’ve talked to. 35mm is a musical written by Ryan Scott Oliver on at Gryphon Theatre until Saturday, which incorporates music, original choreography and a live band led by musical director […]

Accommodation providers
- Eye of the Fish
- A timely and interesting post from the WCC, showing a list of relevant accommodation providers, that may or may not have issues similar to the Loafer’s Lodge, which, as we all know, tragically burnt down and killed people. No one wants a repeat of that sordid mess, and so the great thing is that the WCC are being pro-active and trying to get ahead of the game here. Here’s a link to Scoop’s post – curiously I have not seen it on Stuff Post yet.

Development that can wash its own face
- Talk Wellington
- In NZ our most common urban landuse – the suburb – starts out looking financially good, then absolutely gobbles money from the city, i.e. everyone not living in the suburb. How’s that? And is there another way to do suburbs? The western world has been doing the “suburban experiment” for a few generations now and...

Review: Female Lady Women Comedians
- The Wellingtonista
- Review by Talia Carlisle Is it a bird, is it a plane, no it’s Samantha Hannah leading a super all-female all-funny line-up of comedians that share a striking resemblance… but definitely aren’t all the same person… *wink!* Having been nominated for both Best Comedian, and Best MC at last year’s Wellington Comedy Awards, it makes […]

Parking and Profit: sensible swaps for smart cities
- Talk Wellington
- We’ve all heard about the pandemic hurting hospitality businesses, especially those in city centres. Those temporary street parking for dining space swaps – parklets – have thown up some surprises Toronto is relatable for here. A pretty car-centric (i.e. normal) Canadian city, and its citywide association of business improvement areas (what we call BIDs) has...

Arson or Accident?

Sensible speeds by schools & centres: for once, it’s simple
- Talk Wellington
- ****** This is hard for us! This blog luuuurves to nerd out on things. We love saying things like “there’s more to it than meets the eye” and unpacking technical details, arcane legal stuff, political machinations. But for once, there’s an issue where it really is very simple – despite lots of folk trying to...

All Hail: Stacey Mendonca
- Eye of the Fish
- No more Queen’s Birthday honours, but instead we have the King’s Birthday honour’s list, which seems almost more anachronistic. It starts off both thoroughly well-deserved,...
