Moore Wilson

- It seems like an absolute age since it was started, and who knows really if it has actually been finished, and who knows why they didn’t take the opportunity to go up another 10 floors with some rinky-dinky inner-city flats while they were there but I’m glad they didn’t, and all that aside: the Moore Wilson’s shop / empire that we all love to shop at seems to have reached a state of equilibrium at long last.

Finding our voices

- Earlier this week Hongoeka marae in Plimmerton was filled with the sounds of taonga pūoro (Maori musical instruments) – accompanied by the buzzing of sanders and the call of tuis flitting among the flaxes. I was one of twenty Te Papa staff who took part in a three day wānanga on taonga pūoro, tutored by members of Hau Manu.

Sixteen artists from all over New Zealand will be transforming Thistle Hall into a veritable legion of robots including tasty metal beasts made from scrap, textile bots and clay models. Artists include Wellington favourites Sam Broad, Michele Irving, Mary Laine and Stephen Templer

South Coast Surfs Up
- Eye of the Fish
- Although not an overly frequent frequenter to the suburbs, there is a certain feeling about being by the beach that we quite like: if we weren’t an urban blog, we’d be a seaside blog. Lyall Bay, home of Wellington’s best surf break, and a special spot for windsurfing and kite boarding, is a virtual paradise right on the edge of the capital city. At the edge of the Cook Straight, at times civilised, at other times wild beyond redemption, Lyall Bay is a fantastic place to be in the ‘burbs. In short, the Fish liked to dine at the Maranui Cafe.

- The boys are off to a good start - they played as a team with 'goal' contributions from many. Great to see the positive team work, them using the pace of the ball and width of the field to beat defenders.The weather is surprisingly OK - cold, a freezing wind but no rain!

- And so, with a big hello to all the ReMax twitterers out there receiving our feed, we bring you the latest incarnation of the site where the Tattoo Museum was in Abel Smith St - yes, it is now proposed to be the Tattoo Apartment site. Interestingly, it is to be just 4 stories tall - way below the 9 stories that the tacky Orange apartments have achieved just across the street (next to the Southern Cross).
