7 bicycles per person per year
- Wellington Region Cycleways
- How would you and every New Zealander like to be given 7 bicycles in the coming year? What would you do with 7 bicycles? Have one for every day of the week? It would be a bit of an extravagance and wouldn’t it be a complete waste of money? Well yes, of course.

Whither Cuba?
- Eye of the Fish
- Gosh – that was a surprise! Our venerated local broadsheet, el Domino Postale, appears to have gone and written an excellent, thoughtful article on what we need to do with Cuba St. Have they got a new reporter perhaps, one who is actually interested in matters more important than cute doggies or cats stuck up trees? There is hope, at least – keep an eye out on Nikki McDonald. The article raises some serious points, which I think that we have also raised before – what to do with a street whose charm lies in it’s eclectic collection of semi derelict buildings?

Occupy, umm, something
- Eye of the Fish
- On a day like today, when Gaddafi has been captured, and killed, bringing to a gruesome end to 40 odd years of African bedlam, it seems almost comical to watch the westerners efforts at starting a revolution. From the initial somewhat focussed start in Wall Street over in the centre of the arch-capitalist capital, New [...]

Have Your Say On Greater Wellington’s Basin Reserve Flyover Stance
- Sustainable Wellington Transport
- Wellington City Council has come out against the NZTA’s Basin Reserve flyover plans – but the Economic Committee of Greater Wellington (aka the Wellington Regional Council) voted to support the flyover.

Rasa Malaysia – top eats near the top’o Cuba
- The Wellingtonista
- Over the past couple of months I have been reviewing Malaysian restaurants all around Wellington for Malaysia Kitchen (full disclosure – I got refunded some of the costs). It’s time to share the reviews! A freezing southerly was blowing around Wellington when I met with a group of friends at Rasa Malaysia on Upper Cuba Street, pushing all thoughts of trying something new out of my mind. The weather meant I had to have my favourite laksa.

Option X
- Eye of the Fish
- Following on from the usual tired old grumpy pro-road editorial in the Dom Post, which came to the conclusion that pursuing Option X would be a waste of time, perhaps it is time for a less jaded eye to look at the arguments for, and against. First up, and to some, most importantly, i guess that we have to address the question of cost. The DomPost identifies that Option X may cost up to $165m, which does sound like a heck of a lot of money, and says that the “agency’s preferred option” would only cost $75m. Well, that’s a slam dunk right there, isn’t it? One option more than twice as much as the other? Those damn pesky architects proposing being profligate with the public purse? Except that, no, i reckon that the Dom Post figures are wrong.

Shine Falls – a remnant of the NZ walkways
- Wellington Region Cycleways
- If I’m reading history right in the 1970s there was a small movement (amongst Taranaki locals?) for the establishment of an East West Walkway across the North Island from Cape Egmont to East Cape.
