More on Friday’s Killer whales in Wellington Harbour
- Te Papa's blog
- Here’s proof that there were indeed Orca’s or Killer Whales in Wellington Harbour on Friday. Proof too of what a small, interconnected world we live in! This photo was sent to us by Jochen Flöthe from Kiel, Germany! Jochen’s daughter is back-packing in New Zealand and had sent family back in Germany photos of the six Orca [...]

Killer whales again today, Owhiro Bay
- Te Papa's blog
- There were killer whales (orca) hanging around Wellington harbour yesterday – as reported by Anton van Helden, Te Papa’s marine mammal specialist. More killer whales were seen this morning, though I’d don’t know if they are the same animals. After a txt from Anton I raced down to the South Coast at Owhiro Bay, not far [...]

Water the next ratepayer rip-off?

Cobblestone Rex
- Eye of the Fish
- A story in the Capital Times has been intriguing us here at Eye of the Fish world headquarters, and I’m surprised no one else has picked it up. The Cap Times (with a nicely renovated website - good work guys!) interviews a “local businessman” who is unhappy with the Council spending over a million bucks on ripping apart the old Cobblestone Park outside the big red building of Arch and Design.

- Bryan Pepperell - Back To The Future
- By 2019 the City Council's Debt is forecast to reach $355 million. In a time of high unemployment and increasing costs such as ACC and energy to run the house and car the household disposable income is on a steep decline for many ratepayers.

Wellington is facing rising sea levels
- Bryan Pepperell - Back To The Future
- At the Wellington City Council Strategy and Policy Committee briefing of December 1 we were shown a computer model of the areas of Wellington that would be flooded by sea level rise as a consequence of global warming. One of the areas that may be impacted is the site of the Indoor Sports Centre. There is no doubt there will be consequences that will be beyond our control even if Wellington were to reduce green house gas emissions.

Everyone wants a piece of the pie
- The Wellingtonista
- So today the Dom Post has a story about how Verboom Badges in Left Bank is in trouble with MacDonalds for using its Georgie Pie brand. This story perplexes me for many reasons, but mostly because I'm wondering why the hell anyone would want to bring back Georgie Pie in the first place. Aren't there enough good pies in Wellington for you lot already?

First class citizens at last
- The Wellingtonista
- If you're a pedestrian, sometimes it seems as though you're the last to be considered. Other modes of transport get all the big bucks while we get to stumble along on our own, catching our heels on the cobblestones and dodging the seemingly interminable earthworks. So it's nice to see that there's a dedicated Cycling and Walking journey planner from the Greater Wellington Regional Council
