- A couple of weeks ago, I went for dinner at Hummingbird, and as well as eating fish tacos with my girlfriend (oh grow up!), we ordered the Lamb for Two.

Andy Foster writes
- Eye of the Fish
- Councilor Andy Foster writes: “A recent article asked ‘why isn’t there more evidence of progress for cycling under a green mayor’ ? Questions were also asked about how this all fits with transport overall.

Help with floating fern
- Te Papa's blog
- I’ve recently learnt that the introduced Azolla pinnata (ferny azolla) has been found in the Wellington region. I’m interested in its distribution and would be grateful for help in looking for more. Azolla plants are fairly easy to spot: look for a red plant covering still bodies of water. Azolla are ferns, believe it or [...]

Premiere
- Eye of the Fish
- Yesterday, like the majority of Wellingtonians it seems, I went down to Courtenay Place to see a piece of long red carpet. Not that I really got to see much of the actual carpet of course – standing several rows back behind layers of sweaty little hobbit fans, I mainly had a good view of the back of people’s heads. Nothing wrong with that, of course, the back of some people’s heads are quite nice. Especially if they have hair, and aren’t all warty.

Where the #$%& are the bike lanes already?
- Eye of the Fish
- We’ve had a bicycle-mad mayor for two years now and I don’t think I’ve seen one new bike lane, or any real indication that the council still even gives two hoots about cyclists and pedestrians. In fact our transport planning has just become, frankly, bizarre. For example our city council, regional council, and NZTA apparatchiks seem to think it’s a suitable use of millions of dollars of public money to tack on a dubious pedestrian-walkway-cum-cycleway to the Basin Reserve flyover, so that we can walk and cycle from the tunnel to the bypass. You know, because there’s such a huge amount of people walking and cycling around the city rather than to the city. It’s a route that is barely used for obvious reasons and will remain that way, even if they do actually fix the cycleway so that it is a proper cycleway and not just some bike-shaped-stencils painted onto a sidewalk*.

Christmas Shopping – Part 1
- The Wellingtonista
- For many Christmas is about the newest shiniest toys and things that break within 10 minutes of the box being opened, a season of malls, bad music and chain stores.

Please ride with bricks in your panniers
- Wellington Region Cycleways
- As someone who rides an electric bike it is amazing that I am sometimes exposed to a strange mixture of hostility and snobbery that cycling purists, who’ve never ever ridden an electric bike, will generously offer me.
