Building rumours 15: Forest and Turd
- WellUrban
- hanks to DeepRed for pointing this out: the so-called "Te Aro Towers" on the former Forest & Bird site on the corner of Taranaki and Wigan streets.Oh god. I'd been forewarned of its awfulness, but with higher-res images now available it looks worse than I expected. It really doesn't make it easy to promote high density urban living when unimaginative crap like this is what the market provides.

Why does it cost so much to build stuff in New Zealand? (and is that OK?)
- Talk Wellington

With more dismaying cost overrun stories, there’s more skepticism, more investigation, and more determination to be better… Te Waihanga the Infrastructure Commission concluded recently that New Zealand, perhaps surprisingly, isn’t inherently costlier across-the-board when it comes to building infrastructure – just...

Peak Flow is open!
- Makara Peak Mountain Bike Park
- <figure class=" sqs-block-image-figure intrinsic " > Peak Flow is open! Thanks to the very generous donation from the Drury Family, the berms are now a thing of beauty, it's blindingly fast and there’s a couple of new table tops. Thanks to the TGL Contracting Limited team for the mahi. As always, it’s a bit soft in places so take it easy as it beds in. There are also a couple of new features so have a look before trying to set your new PB. It could do with a bit of rain, which is a weird thing to say in Wellington in Spring!

A City for People
- Decades of inaction have meant house prices are out of control, while old rental properties rot out from underneath us. A whole generation of people are at risk of being forced out from the central city into new suburbs sprawling north, spending hours every day in traffic jams. We believe the Spatial Plan will allow Wellington to plan for the future so that new generations of Wellingtonians can share the city we love, and have a chance to live in a home that is affordable, accessible, healthy and warm.
