On your books
- Architectural Centre Inc
- In the mean time - here’s a round up on projects completing, underway, or even just starting off, as there a couple of new cranes that have appeared over Christmas. The big push around Wellington at the moment is of course the Housing Upgrade Project. A number of well-respected practices around town have got a project or two in there - with a total of about 20 WCC housing projects to upgrade, we’re guessing there is some work in there to last for a few years

Yet another mystery bar
- The Wellingtonista
- I've never been afraid of eclecticism. A dash of Kiwiana and a touch of faded grandeur can go down a treat if served with a generous slug of hipster irony (see Mighty Mighty). A grab-bag of Nana kitsch can turn into something resembling conceptual art if it's assembled with wit and flair (see Auckland's Northern Steamship Company). But sometimes it all goes horribly wrong. I know! Let's grab some

The Waiting For God Commission
- The Wellingtonista
- Let's have a little competition - the NZ Retirement Commissioner, Diana Crossan, says she's wanted a change of name for the Commission for several years, but no-one has coined a suitable name. Waiting for God, and The Golden Years were suggested at Select Committee, but rejected (Un. Be. Lievable.) We'll think of a prize as we go along, maybe a bag of Kapiti Macadamia nuts, I'm sure we can l

Shedding Dreads for the Night Shelter
- Downtown Community Ministry
- Like the line from the song, Tyler Ennis is getting a haircut and hopefully getting a real job. But this is a haircut with a difference. He plans to stand in lower Cuba Mall and charge passers by $20 to cut off a lock of hair. It all happens Saturday 20th June at midday outside Custom Printed Clothing. All the money raised will go to the Wellington Night Shelter.

First XI Score Emphatic Win over Tawa
- St Patricks College, Silverstream
- Wednesday 11 August 2010: In a mid-week catch up game, Stream's First XI Football team faced third placed Tawa as they aim for the Premier 1 title. In a game played at pace on a firm, well-prepared Silverstream pitch Stream's solid defence and powerful attack was too much for Tawa. Two goals from Mitchell Blair and a hat-trick to Hamish Watson gave Stream a 5-1 final result.

Grandstanding
- Eye of the Fish
- We’d heard rumours at the Fish HQ of a proposed sweetener deal of a Grandstand, but have been caught off the hop by this – I didn’t think it was going to surface just yet. It is a curious proposal – and all seems rather Fishy to me. In a country notorious for its distain for, and freedom from corruption, is this the first openly blatant case of bribery on a large scale?

‘Nothing to be Done’ but laugh
- The Wellingtonista
- Comedian Luwita Hana Randhawa does look a little serious below. She looks like someone who probably doesn’t take a lot of nonsense. Someone who would handle a heckler with a dry, sassy quip that would leave everyone wishing they’d thought of such a line, because everyone has those “If only I’d said that” moments. Manufacturing Consent in The Capital / Media Collusion in Wellington?
- Bryan Pepperell - Back To The Future
- This week in the Capital's politics the temperature rose steeply over the District Plan and infill housing. That was driven by the City's news maker the Dompost with a series of reports designed to give a favourable impression of a Council that has been papering over the cracks of a permissive District Plan.

"Crash Test Dummy"

A City for People
- Decades of inaction have meant house prices are out of control, while old rental properties rot out from underneath us. A whole generation of people are at risk of being forced out from the central city into new suburbs sprawling north, spending hours every day in traffic jams. We believe the Spatial Plan will allow Wellington to plan for the future so that new generations of Wellingtonians can share the city we love, and have a chance to live in a home that is affordable, accessible, healthy and warm.
