    • Chain Ganging
      • Rather than a game to burn off energy tonight we moved a pile of left over pruning/ firewood to be accessible for collection. A scout suggested a chain rather than individuals walking back & forth. It worked really well, except … Continue reading →

    • Hall working-bee
      • With winter approaching it was becoming apparent just how shaded the deck was getting. So an old Coprosma (that was more ivy than tree) has made way for drying winter sun😅. A quick bleach and wash has returned the hall … Continue reading →

    • Term planning and a farewell
      • Scouts suggested activities, voted and chose the activities for next term. Then we recreated our small teams and they chose which activities they wanted to organise and run. Youth leading – adults supporting. We also farewelled another Kaiārahi which has … Continue reading →

    • It’s the sound of the Police!
      • A visit to Kilbirnie Community Policing Centre was enthusiastically embraced by our rangatahi. Two constables showed us around and answered rather too many questions about tazers (which interestingly neither had ever used). I wonder which youth will find themselves back … Continue reading →

    • Predators watch out!
      • 24 traps were made for the local Predator Free Group to distribute around the neighbourhood. They were too small to catch pesky Scouts though! Nov ’24

    • Pet show & tell
      • Scouts learnt about a variety of pets and what was involved in looking after them. We were lucky to have some pets brave a visit to the hall too. October ’24

    • Scouts went orienteering on Mt Victoria
      • It was a misty evening but that didn’t dampen enthusiasm for zooming around collecting check point clues. Some lessons were learnt about listening to instructions! A few teams walked little further than they needed too!😊 Nov 2024

    • I am Unique
      • Our rangatahi certainly embraced diversity tonight, with nearly everyone feeling brave enough to either play a musical instrument, talk about an interest, show us a unique skill or make us 😆 We had an embroider taking their subject inspiration from … Continue reading →

    • Slideshow/ powerpoint night
      • I continue to be in awe of the great things Scouts can do if given the opportunity. Tonight, rather than avoiding technology our small teams used it to put short presentations together – on whatever topic took their fancy. Some … Continue reading →

    • Matariki investiture’s
      • Tonight we caught up with investiture’s –12 in all 🥳 (some dating back several terms😬). Luckily we have patient youth🤭 We’ve been quite busy doing fun stuff… (and also had a shortage of scarves – now remedied thanks to some … Continue reading →

    • Kaitoke Scout Camp
      • Camping in the middle (literally) of winter is always fun. We got the full -1ºC frost treatment followed by rain – with (luckily) some warmish sun in-between! Saturday was packed full of activities from a navigation challenge and a mini … Continue reading →

    • Pride Week
      • Tonight we painted fingernails, designed badges and iced biscuits after a discussion relating to things Pride: Diversity, Accessibility &. Honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We were also visited by our new Zone Kairārahi Regan (who we roped into judging the … Continue reading →

    • Adults volunteering
      • All adults at Brooklyn Scout Group are volunteers! The group relies on volunteers to run the Section nights & camps etc. and to fundraise for us! Here is part of a fundraising team at our main money earner – running … Continue reading →

    • Fire lighting
      • It was another great night, so we did what all scouts love – lighting fires & roasting marshmallows (everyone went home smelling very smokey!)

    • Sign Language Week
      • Scouts putting up tents without speaking – yeah right! Actually, they did pretty well (and we got to check out our two ‘new’ tents👍🏽

    • BSG visits Karori West Scout Group
      • Tonight we ventured into darkest suburbia to get to know our fellow Zealandia Jamboree Troop attendees. A number of ice-breaking activities and challenges were undertaken. Karori West’s more ‘senior’ scouts did a great job ensuring the night went well and … Continue reading →

    • Mystery cook-off challenge
      • What do you get when 18 Scouts each bring a tin of food, and someone peels all the labels off and redistributes the tins among four teams to ‘cook’? Well, you get some pretty random combinations, most of which were … Continue reading →

    • Fundraising
      • We rely on our Adult Volunteers to help us fundraise, so our youth can have fun adventurous experiences – like going to a Jamboree! One ‘valuable’ activity we undertake is running a bar at Sky Stadium – here is one … Continue reading →
