Summer waterfront market…
- The Wellingtonista
- Every Thursday from noon til sunset. February and March. Taranaki Wharf and Odlins Plaza outside Macs Brewery and St Johns Heneiken. So. Some shopping… (you wondered what those mini containers on the waterfront were for didn’t you?!) Some grazing… (the usual suspects seen at other markets) […] The post Summer waterfront market… appeared first on The Wellingtonista.

The Indian job

- Walking along the waterfront What could be better than a stroll along the waterfront? Not much! On a sunny day, it seems all of Wellington is walking/riding/running between Queen’s Wharf and Chaffers’ Marina.

We are talking don buri, udon and beef noodle salad here people, well worth waiting in line for if you have the time. Behold the line at 11.30am last year....

Cyclists who cruise are awesome, cyclists who whoosh are not
- The Wellingtonista
- Cycle Aware Wellington has a cute campaign going to encourage cyclists to ride nicely on the waterfront. It involves handing out freebies: bells and lights. If there's anything we at the Wellingtonista endorse, it's freebies and nice cyclists. More details here.

Night Noms
- The Wellingtonista
- Anyone who has been down to the waterfront this week would have seen a large rusty barge parked in the lagoon and a bunch of scaffolding and marquees going up. You may well be wondering, "what the hell is all of this in aid of?" Well gentle reader, today for one day only, the area around the lagoon and Frank Kitts Park is being transformed into a slice of Asia (well about 10 or so slices of Asia) for the Southeast Asian Night Market.

I for one welcome our new mirrorball overlords
- The Wellingtonista
- Te Papa's forecourt may look as if it's under attack by giant glittery space balls, but it's actually the start of a two-year kinetic sculpture installation called "The Mimetic Brotherhood", by Peter Trevelyan. There's not much kinesis evident at the moment, but once the installation is complete, expect the plinth-eating monsters to start pulsating in their full hydraulic glory.

Catch of the day
- The Wellingtonista
- Piscivores rejoice! A couple of local fishing boats have started to dock at Chaffers Marina on Sundays and are selling their wares direct to the public, and it will make a nice complement to the meat & veg at Waitangi Park market.

A city littered with poetry
- The Wellingtonista
- Now, everybody has seen the poetry which seems to appear just about everywhere down near the lagoon and around Te Papa, right? This one took me by surprise though. It's Fiona Kidman, and is in such a comparatively out-of-the-way place I literally stumbled across it.

Ahoy me hearties!
- The Wellingtonista
- So it's one week until that most beloved of all days - International Talk Like a Pirate Day. I bet you're wondering how you can celebrate it instead of going to the Driving Government Performance - the development goals at work conference. Luckily, the Museum of Wellington City and Sea has the perfect solution: The Great Pirate Corporate Challenge! The challenge takes place between 12.30-2pm on the day, and will see teams of five compete in a treasure hunt on Somes/Maitu Island, a peg-leg race and a tug'o war.

A whirled of pain
- The Wellingtonista
- Now that the wind's gone (calloo callay!) and the sun's out (oh frabjous day!), wouldn't it be a lovely time to wander down to the waterfront and see the much photographed Water Whirler do its thing? Not so fast, matey boy, someone has had other ideas.
