My favourite modernist building … Rees Townhouses
- Architectural Centre Inc
- In New Zealand, there is a tradition of conserving ‘old’ buildings made of timber and stone. There is also a more recent ‘tradition,’ of owners and their architects who scrub their buildings so white, they look surgically enhanced, erasing all character and grace. The ever hardening appearance of Ponsonby’s Franklin Road over the past […]

Pioneers of rugby in Wellington 031: Ned Hughes

This Bill should NOT Pass
- Eye of the Fish
- At least, that seems to be the view of the vast majority of people commenting on the Resource Management (Enabling Housing Supply and Other Matters) Amendment Bill, (RMEHSOM), which is being rammed through Parliament with indecent haste. Haste so hasty in fact that the Environment Select Committee was sitting on Saturday, which also happened to be the most glorious hot Saturday of the summer so far. Most people and organisations said a version of the following:

Fale Malae
- Eye of the Fish
- Wellington’s Waterfront is going to be quite full, or so it seems. Yesterday the WCC agreed in principle to the proposed Fale Malae being proposed for the waterfront, or at least for them to go forward to the next phase of planning. This is the same Fale that was proposed for a site up near Parliament (on Bunny St, between the Victoria School of Law in the old Government Buildings, and the VUW Business School in Rutherford House). Evidently someone has ruled that the parliamentary site was unsuitable, and so Frank Kitts Park has been proposed instead.

A City for People
- Decades of inaction have meant house prices are out of control, while old rental properties rot out from underneath us. A whole generation of people are at risk of being forced out from the central city into new suburbs sprawling north, spending hours every day in traffic jams. We believe the Spatial Plan will allow Wellington to plan for the future so that new generations of Wellingtonians can share the city we love, and have a chance to live in a home that is affordable, accessible, healthy and warm.
