Please do come along and see us if you would like to. Sign in and out at the office, Carolina will be able to tell you where your child is working. The one hour sessions start at 9.30am, 11.30am and 1.45pm.

    • Level 1 message from the Principal
      • Kia ora koutou, Today is the first school day under Covid Alert level 1. The contact tracing registers are no longer required and have been removed. The Ministry of Health has provided us with a specific Kilbirnie School QR code that can be used in conjunction with their NZ Covid Tracer app. We have placed this QR code around the school for those whānau that wish to use this to track their own personal movements. Parents and whānau are now able to come and go from the school site in the morning and afternoon without signing in and out, at any other time of the day, parents must sign in through the Vistab digital sign-in system at the main reception. Students who are late should also use the Vistab. For the remainder of this week we will continue to have staff at the school entrances in the morning and afternoon. It may well be that many parents continue to farewell students at the gates and allow them to walk to class from there, this has worked well. Since we returned to school we have appreciated the support of our community in ensuring that students were not at school before 8.30am. It is important that this support continues, teachers are not able to supervise students before this time. The Ngake (junior) hub staff will email their whānau separately tomorrow and I will provide another update on school operations under level 1 in the school newsletter this Friday.  Regards Tony Austin

    • Matariki Day
      • Matariki will be celebrated at school on Tuesday 2 July and the children will have the opportunity to try a variety of activities during the day.

    • Message from the Principal
      • Kia ora koutou,  It has been wonderful to be back at school with students and staff. The last few weeks have been particularly unusual working in a school with no students! We have all been very pleased with the way students have settled back into routines and learned the new physical distancing, hygiene and cleaning procedures that are operating in all classrooms and across the school. Teachers have worked with students this week to ensure they feel comfortable, supported and safe in the classroom and school. Teachers have observed students carefully throughout the week and report a general calmness and prevailing sense of being happy to be back at school. We have really appreciated the support of our community in making our contact tracing system work well.  As you know, we must have all adults that enter the school grounds or buildings record their details in the register, we will continue to ask that you do not enter the school or grounds unless it is absolutely necessary. When possible, please drop your child or children at the school entrance you use and collect from there, rather than going into the grounds.  There are registers outside the 3 main blocks and also outside the hall, hand sanitiser will be available however bring your pen if possible. At any other time of the day, parents must sign in through the Vistab digital sign-in system at the main reception. Students who are late should also use the Vistab. Please maintain physical distancing if you need to come to reception. We understand that for parents of our youngest students in the Ngake hub it is still important and necessary for you to bring your child into the classroom. You can certainly still do this, just remember to fill in the register. The Ngake hub will continue to finish at 2.50pm each day. In this week’s video I am joined by students from room 9 who talk about the first week back in class: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2VTwbGyH5M&feature=youtu.be Again, I would like to thank the Kilbirnie School community for your support this week and also throughout our preparation for the return to school.   Tony Austin.

    • Term 2 home learning
      • All Kilbirnie School students are continuing their home learning programmes from within their home bubble. Teachers have worked hard to review and further develop home learning programmes which commenced again on Wednesday April 29th. Feedback from our community informed this review. If you have any questions or queries at all regarding your child's home learning, all teachers are able to be contacted daily by email or using video conferencing.  Please don’t hesitate to contact and engage with your teacher if your child or you need additional support to make home learning work for you. We are very aware of the challenges whānau are facing.  What successful home learning looks like will continue to be different for different students. Teachers are striving hard to provide programmes that suit a wide variety of needs and circumstances within the home. I would encourage parents to do their best when supporting students, don’t be too hard on yourselves and if you’re feeling unsure, contact the teacher. Regards Tony

    • Covid-19 update - 14 March 2020
      • On March 14th the Prime Minister announced new and strong protective measures to keep individuals, families and communities safe and healthy. The measures come into effect from 1am Monday 16 March 2020 and are as follows: Travel restrictions remain in place for people arriving from or who have been in mainland China and Iran over the prior 14 days (Category 1A).  In addition, all travellers coming from all parts of the world, except parts of the Pacific, will be required to self-isolate for 14 days on arrival in New Zealand. This also includes Australia and French Polynesia. This self-isolation requirement applies to New Zealand citizens, permanent residents and their families (Category 1B). All travellers coming from the following parts of the Pacific will be required to self-isolate if they show symptoms, within 14 days of arrival. This includes all Pacific Islands Forum members (except French Polynesia, category 1b), Associate Member Tokelau, and Observer Wallis and Futuna. (Category 2).Those in New Zealand thinking about traveling overseas, should avoid all non-essential travel at this time. For anyone who arrived into New Zealand prior to this time they will need to follow the previous restrictions. The self-isolation requirement would therefore only apply to those arriving on Sunday 15 March and earlier, if they had travelled in or transited through China and Iran or had travelled in the Republic of Korea or Italy. The new restrictions will be reviewed on Tuesday 31 March and then every 14 days after that date. There are no restrictions on freight and goods, they will continue to come in.
