Fantastic news!
- Save Crossways campaign
- At today's Strategy & Policy Committee meeting, the Council voted to give Crossways a 12 month reprieve by providing some interim funding to St Andrews. This will allow enough time for the community to form a trust, put together a plan to re-invent Crossways for the 21st Century, and conduct some serious fund-raising. It's not the three years we asked for, but it's fair, reasonable, and - most of all - achievable. It's a fantastic outcome! Our heart-felt thanks go to St Andrews for their flexibility and genuine commitment to finding a workable compromise, and to the Council who have allowed the community the time to re-invent our community house. We'll post more information about what needs to happen next as soon as we can.

Result: Twilight 5k Series - Race 6
- Olympic Harriers
- There were good conditions for race with only a light breeze. A slight deviation of the course to avoid a large Marquee meant the turn was a little further out but the GPS users seemed to think the course length was on the money. Fastest time for the male runners was from Levente Timar with a very quick 15:50 (and a personal best for the series). Stephanie Mackenzie was the first woman runner in 18:12. Terri Grimmett lead the walkers home with a 31:06 finish followed by Geoff Iremonger for the men with 33:31. Thanks to the sponsors Lifestyle sports & the Chicago bar for their continuing support and to the helpers at registration and with timekeeping & marshalling.

- We had our 1st game on the new {Porirua} turf on Sunday and came away with a 2 - 0 win against YWCA! The new turf is very bouncy, is like playing on shag pile carpet! Hopefully will settle down after some use! A great goal scored by Sonja Jeffs on the left wing, was in the right spot at the right time for a beautiful cross from the right and nicely swept in! 2nd goal was a great deflection into the goal by Chrissy Potaka Kelly after a hit to the 'spot'! Good work by the Team! Lisa

Weekly Wrap-up (Week 10 – Term 1)
- Wellington High School
- Important Dates Term 1 Monday 9 April – Emergency Lock Down Drill Friday 13 April – Last day of Term 1 Term 2 Monday 30 April – First day back for Term 2 Wednesday 2 May – Junior Parent Teacher Interviews (bookings to open during Week 11) Monday 7 May – Senior Parent Teacher Interviews (bookings to open during Week 11) Monday 14 May – BoT meeting Monday 6 June – Open Evening Monday 17 June – BoT meeting Click here for Term Dates 2018 Important Information Lock Down Drill — Monday 9 April 2018 Wellington High School has been working with Harrison Tew®, who specialise in emergency management planning for schools, to further strengthen our emergency planning. The procedures they have developed allow us to respond safely and quickly to a range of circumstances and have been successfully implemented at schools across the country. Harrison Tew® will run specialised training with senior management, our staff and students in the lead up to a lock down exercise, which will occur on Monday 9 April. The exercise will be as real-life as possible, which will mean that parents/families will receive notification by way of text, WHS app and/or email. The information passed will emphasise that this is an exercise/practice and will explain that all updated information will then be posted on the school website. In a genuine incident, should you hear of a lock down at the school, can we please ask that you do not attend the school or phone, as we will not be able to respond. Your presence at, or contact with the school may make it more difficult for us to manage the situation, and could potentially & place your children and in fact yourselves at risk. What you need to do now Prior to this exercise, please check that your contact details (mobile phone numbers and email & addresses) are current. This will be the information we use to reach you should an emergency occur at the school. You can do this by checking your details through the parent portal [portal.whs.school.nz] and choosing ‘Details’. Download the WHS App today via Google Play store (Android) or iTunes app store (Apple) Reminders: Earthquake / school closure This is a good time to encourage you to make or review your family plan around other emergencies, such as earthquakes. You may find ‘How to get ready’ is a helpful resource. A family plan is particularly important for students who travel to school from out of zone as their transport routes may be cut off. If a decision is made to close school, for any reason, we will keep our year 9 and 10 students with us until a known adult can come and collect them from the school field. The only adults permitted to collect a student will be the caregivers and emergency contacts that we have recorded. We will only release our year 11, 12 and 13 students when it has been declared safe to do so. Please ensure that a discussion about safe routes to get home are part of your family plan. Older students may stay at school under our supervision until they are able to be collected if this arrangement forms part of your Family Emergency Plan. We thank you for your ongoing support.

Metlink Encourages Early Bedtimes for Students—Without Consultation
- Salient
- Students having a night out will soon no longer be able to take the night bus home, after the Greater Wellington Regional Council agreed to scrap the service last week. Neither VUWSA nor Te Tira Ahu Pae—the Massey equivalent—were consulted on the changes. Metlink’s night buses run between 1 and 4.30am on Saturday and Sunday mornings, providing a cheap(ish) option for students and others in town to get home safely. With low patronage, Metlink made the call to ax them in favour of high-frequency (the 1, 2, 7, ect.) services running later into the night and starting earlier in the morning.

Mike Grace's Cook Strait Crossing Attempt
- Wellington Rowing Club
- Wellington Senior Men's rower Mike Grace, along with Star rower Ben Dunsheath, set out on 15 March on their first attempt to cross Cook Strait in an ocean-going rowing boat. The forecast was for a great day - 2-5 knot northerly winds and a light sea swell. However, after about half way through the trip (taking an hour and 45 mins) the wind was up to 20 knots, and Mike and Ben were forced to pull out. The attempt has not lowered the spirits of the pair, and they plan on having another crack at the crossing as soon as Wellington's weather co-operates.
