      • pre-season local derby this Saturday morning at Wakefield Park 9:30am
        • 20 Feb 2020
        • Island Bay United AFC
        • <figure class=" sqs-block-image-figure intrinsic " > Come down to support the IBU Shark's first team in their second pre-season game of 2020 this time against Wellington United from the Capital Premier League. This game is a particularly special one as it features Leonardo Villa, who most of you will know simply as Leo, playing for the opposition.  Leo is our head junior coach and is often seen around Wakefield nurturing our 5-15 year old junior and youth players.  For the junior players out there, one of the absolute treats of having Leo around is being able to witness him playing the “beautiful game”. You are unlikely to see a player in our local competitions like Leo, having played to the heights of Serie B in the Italian league over several seasons.  To see Leo gliding about the field directing, intervening and playing defence splitting passes is to see the work of a master.  His feline presence on the field is truly the embodiment of Argentina’s famed Puma, prowling the midfield!   Good luck Leo, but not too much - the Sharks are going to be here to play! • Dawn of a New Age; the Prosser Era begins!
        • 14 Feb 2020
        • Island Bay United AFC
        • <figure class=" sqs-block-image-figure intrinsic " > After yesterdays incredibly exciting news regarding Wynton Rufer’s nascent arrival at the club, today sees the dawn of a new era for the Island Bay United 1st team under the watchful eye of new coach James Prosser. James’ reign begins today with a pre-season warm-up against Palmerston North Red Sox at Wakefield Park at 3:45pm. James has brought an incredibly optimistic mood to the club due to both his personal positivity and also in securing the services of former club legends like Caleb Hilbron, not to mention connecting us with the aforementioned international footballing genius Wynton Rufer. In paraphrasing Churchill, James imparted: “This is not the beginning of the end nor is it the end of the beginning, no, it is the beginning of the beginning” If you have some spare time today why not come down to Wakefield and bask in the windless balmy weather… you may just be witnessing the birth of a reformation with a renaissance to follow.   Learn more about James here

        • Island Bay United AFC
        • <figure class=" sqs-block-image-figure intrinsic " > Masters football registration is now open! Inviting existing and new masters players to join the fastest growing area of Island Bay United! Costs are $285 per player for the season, and we have 5 confirmed teams, ranging from Masters 2 to Masters 5. Each team has a minimum squad of 16 players, although most will carry a few more to allow for injuries and player unavailability. Many existing players are local fathers of our junior members or long time friends of the club. Teams also range from competitive to social, but all teams have a great culture and want to go out and have some fun on the pitch on a Saturday afternoon. New players are welcome as we are trying to build a new team this year, so feel free to contact our Masters Coordinator Rod Lawson. You may have played in the past, have been wanting to give football a go or just wanting to get back into doing something active on the weekends. Let us know a little about yourself and what you are wanting out of Masters football when you contact Rod. Sill not sure, come down for one of the social training runs on a Wednesday night or Sunday morning to have a kick and make a call from there! if you are a returning player, please register online at MyComet and you will be allocated to your team separately.

Coach James Prosser assesses the situation... "Another massive player commitment that I'm extremely excited to have secured and proud to have back at the club. Caleb is an individual of strong moral character and personality who encompasses what the IBU club culture and ethos is all about. In addition to these positive characteristics, the Big Man is a force on the pitch. We expect Caleb to bring endless amounts of energy, passion and hopefully bunches of goals to help us reach our 1st team aspirations for the season. Welcome back Caleb, we are stoked to have you home!!”  #sharkattack ⚽ #enjoytheprocess Caleb adds "I'm excited to be back apart of the IBU club family at the beginning of a long-term project and I desire to perform to the best of my abilities in all capacities required of me.I'm looking forward to being around this great club and patrons such as Mike [Gaeta], John Barton and Paul Muollo who have left big impressions upon me as a player and person, as well as with James Prosser, who has made the decision to come back an easy one."  #goalsgalore #followtheprosseress
