Missing diver near Makara Beach
- Coastguard Mana
- Operation Details Date/Time: Mon, 13/02/2012 - 14:40 - 15:30 Operation Type: SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted: 0 Total Volunteer Hours: 7 I diver was reported as missing south of Mana Island near Makara Beach. Coastguard Mana activated a callout but were stood down at 15:30, just as we were about to depart Mana Marina, as the diver had been located safe and well. A vessel had dropped off the diver at 12:30 and then went to a different location, due to return and pick them up at 13:20. When the vessel returned they couldn't locate the diver and started a search, calling Police by phone. Zeal Kāpiti Musicians lounge
- Zeal
- Every second-month young people come together at Zeal Kāpiti to showcase their skills. From experienced performers to new artists, live sound engineers, photographers, and event managers, this event is made by young people for young people. The Kāpiti team of young people arrive at midday to start setting up the stage, lighting, sound gear, green room, clear out the hangs and events spaces, and fill the centre with chairs and beanbags. If the weather is nice they open up our massive roller door which opens up a whole wall in our events space and creates an awesome indoor outdoor flow. Young people start rolling in, some grab the Zeal DSLR cameras and start taking photos and videos while the performers are getting prepped in the green room upstairs.

- Wellingtonians have told us they want a city that is vibrant, resilient, and creative, so we’re investing in the improvements that our city needs to flourish. Right now, Wellington is in a period of transition, as we upgrade our infrastructure to create a city where people and nature thrive. One of the most important projects is the revitalisation of the heart of our city, the precinct around Te Ngākau Civic Square. Te Ngākau Civic Precinct is a large area of land near the waterfront in central Wellington, approximately 3.36 hectares (33,600sqm). The precinct is home to some of our most important cultural, creative, and civic functions such as Te Matapihi Central Library, Wellington Town Hall and City Gallery. When all the work in Te Ngākau is finished, it will be a place that we can all be proud of – full of creativity, culture, and excitement, both day and night.

On the passing of Ben Hana
- Downstage Theatre
- On 15 Jan our Courtenay Pl neighbour Ben Hana, more commonly known as Blanket Man or Brother, passed away at Wellington Hospital. In the days since an impromptu ‘shrine’ has appeared on the wall of the ANZ building where Ben was most commonly seen over the last few years. The shrine, like Ben, is destined to become controversial. Simultaneously creative and destructive, as it spreads over the faux-grecian façade of the bank questions and conflicts will arise as to whether it should be left alone, or washed clean. A fitting tribute, and one that would’ve no doubt amused the man himself.

The day was clear and still with bright sunshine, a whole world away from the windy storms I had experienced while training for this race in Wellington. Lower Hutt Amateur Athletic Club
- The Lower Hutt Amateur Athletic Club (LHAAC) caters for children aged 7-15 years. The 2006-07 season runs from 25th October to 15th March. Club nights offer a mixture of competition and coaching to enable children to gain the necessary skills to participate in a variety of running, jumping and throwing events. Makara Hall and St Patricks Church
- Originally built in 1873 by the Catholic diocese, St Patricks is a non-denominational, community owned church. Situated in the farming and lifestyle area of Makara, St Patricks is twenty minutes drive from the centre of Wellington. The Church is listed with the Historic Places Trust and is lovingly maintained by local volunteers.
