Voices of support
- Downstage Theatre
- We've been heartened and humbled by the messages of support and goodwill we've received over the last week. As we set to work over the next few months revitalising and strengthening our theatre ahead of 2012, knowing our community is behind us is vital. We have a number of events and initiatives planned where those who have asked how you can help will be able to make a real difference. In the meantime, we'd like to share some of the kind words we've received.

Hands Around The Basin: Sunday 25 September, 12 noon
- Sustainable Wellington Transport
- As you probably know, consultation on the NZ Transport Agency’s ill-conceived flyover designs have now closed. But we’re increasingly concerned that the Agency intends ignoring the groundswell of opposition, as they did in a previous stage of consultation – where 79% of submissions were opposed to a flyover. So we think it’s time to show how committed Wellingtonians are to keeping the Basin Reserve as a green space in the centre of our city.

Don’t sing in the railway station – it’s banned because of the Rugby World Cup
- Wellington Scoop
- Be warned. The ultra-strict Rugby World Cup rules take effect in Wellington this weekend. One of the most surprising bans – and one of the meanest – is a restriction on where buskers can perform. The city council always requires them to get a licence. (It’s free, after you’ve filled in a form and studied the guidelines.) But for the Rugby World Cup, with or without a licence, no busking will be allowed within 500 metres of the Westpac Regional Stadium.

DCM Bulletin - Recycle Your Craft Stash!
- Downtown Community Ministry
- Spring is finally here, so it is a great time to clean out those cupboards full of extra or unwanted items, and pass them on to someone else. If you have fabric, yarn, or other craft items that you’re looking to recycle, there is a new community craft group just waiting for you to donate your stash. “We would like donations of anything craft related,” says Sally-Ann, a member of the group. “It doesn’t have to be fancy, but we need fabric, cotton, quilting templates, knitting wool, anything and everything.”
