They were stood down just as they were crossing the bar because another vessel in the area had responded and taken them under tow. Drifting onto nearby rocks on Mana Island, Coastguard Mana were called to assist.       • Operation Details Date/Time:  Sun, 24/04/2016 - 22:50 - Mon, 25/04/2016 - 01:00 Operation Type:  SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted:  2 Total Volunteer Hours:  13 33 foot keeler went aground at entrance to the channel at Ngatitoa. Vessel stuck fast with tide incoming. Vessel still stuck at high tide and would not budge. Mana Rescue 1 was able to secure a line to the vessel and eventually pull her off the sandbar. She was towed to deeper water then made her way to Mana under her own steam. It was towed back towards Mana but then dropped out in the bay off Plimmerton and told to get someone else to take them in, or they'd pick them up again on the way back from fishing. The vessel appeared to be taking on water so the skipper placed a Mayday call, which Maritime Radio responded to. Police then tasked us to respond to tow them in.       • Please find the following information and newsletter relating to the NZ Secondary School Track, Field and Road Race Championships, being held in Newtown Stadium in 6-8 December 2019 Newsletter One Guideline Programme The following changes (in red) have been made to the programme: In order to avoid a clash of High and Triple Jumps for the Junior Boys the Junior/PA Boys and Junior/PA Girls High Jumps have been swapped. The boys will now compete on Sunday at 9.00am and the girls on Saturday at 3.30pm. This also improves the spread of jumps for the girls. As a result of interest in having mixed girls and boys 4×400m relays the NZSSAA Executive has decided to trial this as a pilot event for both grades for 2019/20. We came alongside to check they were ok and they couldn't get their engine going. They thought they would be able to, so we carried on with the other job. On the way back we passed them and they asked for assistance which they agreed to. We returned after dropping off the other vessel and towed them home to Mana Marina.     • 15m Yacht with broken rudder
      • Operation Details Date/Time:  Sat, 26/12/2020 - 09:10 - 16:00 Operation Type:  SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted:  2 Total Volunteer Hours:  75 A 15m yacht broke its rudder approximately 2NM west of Mana Island whilst crossing to the South Island. MR1 was tasked by Police to tow them home. By the time we got to them the wind had got up to 25-35kts and they had drifted 7NM west of Mana Island. We towed them back in challenging conditions and put them at anchor just outside the Mana bar, as they were unable to cross it at low tide.       • Operation Details Date/Time:  Wed, 30/12/2020 - 14:00 - 15:00 Operation Type:  CG Operation (good samaritan) People Assisted:  2 Total Volunteer Hours:  6 Whilst having lunch we heard a radio call with MOC from a dinghy that had nearly capsized crossing from Titahi Bay to Mana Island due to wind increasing unexpectedly. They had lost their kayak, which they were carrying on the dinghy, and had decided to beach it at the ranger station on Mana Island to wait for the conditions to improve before returning. A couple of vessels found the kayak and radioed MOC with the details. One of the vessels recovered it and returned it to Mana Marina.       • Operation Details Date/Time:  Tue, 05/02/2013 - 09:00 - 10:00 Operation Type:  CG Operation (good samaritan) People Assisted:  2 Total Volunteer Hours:  5 The Harbour Master requested the assistance of Coastguard Mana to help resolve a situation caused by severe southerly winds overnight.  A catamaran in Porirua Harbour had slipped its anchor and drifted into a trimaran moored nearby.  Both yatchs were caught together and the strong southerlies had caused the trimaran to puncture the cat above the water line. The owners were on board and declined assistance.
