    • Plastic Bag Free Aro Valley
      • Plastic bag free Aro Valley! Will you accept the challenge?   Aro Valley Community Council (AVCC) is encouraging local households, businesses and schools to accept the Plastic Free July Challenge with a special focus on a plastic bag free Aro Valley. Will you accept the challenge to go plastic bag free during July? "Think about it. Why would you make something that you're going to use for a few minutes out of a material that's basically going to last forever, and you're just going to throw it away. What's up with that?" Jeb Berrier, BagIt Movie The AVCC is hosting a range of activities including; a movie night, a make your own fabric bag workshop, a community clean up with pizza and beer and support for those who pledge to go plastic bag free! You can register for the challenge, and share your experiences, ideas and tips at www.plasticfreejuly.org and follow the Aro Valley Community Council’s journey on Facebook. If you would like to get involved in banner painting, sewing reusable bags, art, or flyer drops – get in touch! Plastic Free July started as a local initiative in Perth, Western Australia and has grown into a global initiative.       • Sarah Jane Parton, one of our much valued coordinators, will sadly be leaving Aro Valley Community Centre on the 5th of May. She has been with the AVCC since March last year, but is heading overseas with her family for a few months and then taking on some new projects that will leave her too busy to continue on as a coordinator.       • The Aro Valley Fair is happening on Saturday the 26th of March and will feature fantastic bands on two stages, stalls with food and crafts, and a white elephant. This year it runs from 10am - 10pm, with an all ages gig in the newly revamped hall from 6 - 10pm. Bands and musicians on the line up include: The Family Cactus, Upper Hutt Posse, Eva Prowse, Seth Frigthening, Terror of the Deep, Little Bark, [...]

      • The Aro Valley Fair is happening on Saturday the 26th of March and will feature fantastic bands on two stages, stalls with food and crafts, and a white elephant. This year it runs from 10am - 10pm, with an all ages gig in the newly revamped hall from 6 - 10pm. Bands and musicians on the line up include: The Family Cactus, Upper Hutt Posse, Eva Prowse, Seth Frigthening, Terror of the Deep, Little Bark, Jessie James, and KazaamBLAM. The stalls include some exciting textiles, pottery, baking, photography, art, clothing, comics, and delicious food for eating on the day and  for taking home. We are still looking for volunteers to help with the running of the fair, and if you're keen to help our with this community event please email community@arovalley.org.nz to register your interest and we'll get back to you to discuss what you could do. Would you like a stall at the Fair? There are still a few stall sites available, and you can download an application here.
