    • Operation Details Date/Time:  Fri, 25/03/2022 - 11:30 - 13:30 Operation Type:  CG Operation (good samaritan) People Assisted:  1 Total Volunteer Hours:  8 A yacht broke the bow line on the pole moorings during a southerly storm. It swung around and damaged the yacht behind it. The Harbour Master requested us to help secure the vessel and MR2 put it back on the pole with a new line.  It was later discovered that the vessel planks had been damaged and it was taking on water. The Meeting was warmed up by speakers who talked about a range of topics including: the proposal to develop a supermarket on the Tasman/Rugby Street site where the Boys and Girls Institute is located; the history of Mt Cook; the proposal for a Memorial Park and moving Buckle Street; the response of Mt Cook School to the plan to move Buckle Street – Sate Highway 1; the WCC’s plans for the area surrounding Adelaide Rd, and; the uncertain future of TSW Swim School currently using the BGI pool.

Vessel located and towed to mooring behind Mana Island. Moored off and mechanic taken on board the following morning of 29/12. Engine successfully started. No further support required. Actual time (5 hrs) was split across two days, but is reported as a single block here. The dive boat they were with lost track of their bubbles, and they weren't towing a marker buoy, after they were swept away from the dive area via strong currents. They surfaced together later and were swept further away from the area and the boat. Coastguard Mana was dispatched to assist in the search alongside Coastguard Kapiti and Westpac Rescue helicopter. It had been left behind so that he could be transported quickly to awaiting paramedics for checks at Mana Cruising Club. The board was successfully loacated and recovered back to base. Police activated us and we launched MR2. Nothing found on location. 2 surf boats training in the area reported seeing waka heading back up the channel to Onepoto harbour. Called Police to report this and they confirmed that they were safe and well and had just sent a stand-down. Returned to base. • • Councils back Government decision on Wellington’s Mass Rapid Transport future

    • Greater Wellington and Wellington City Council today approved the preferred Mass Rapid Transport option for the Let’s Get Wellington Moving (LGWM) programme, the same option endorsed by Government last week. The preferred option, known as option 1, introduces Mass Rapid Transit to the South Coast and continuous bus priority to the East, and focuses on a new Mt Victoria tunnel with dedicated provision for public transport, walking and cycling, as well as upgrades at the Basin Reserve to improve flows and physically separate movements and extend the Arras tunnel. As a package this option moves the most people possible from the southern and eastern suburbs, supports the most housing and urban development of all the options, and makes city streets better for everyone.

CRV Pelorus took some new recruits off Trust Porirua Rescue (that had been training) and TPR immediately responded to the scene. Light was fading by this stage and finding the dinghy in the dark was very difficult as they did not have any form of lighting or signalling equipment with them, no VHF, and their cellphone battery was dying - an all too common occurance!     • Operation Details Date/Time:  Tue, 02/03/2010 - 23:30 - Wed, 03/03/2010 - 00:30 Operation Type:  SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted:  0 Police received a call from a member of the public regarding a sighting of a light flashing intermittently off the coast of Plimmerton towards Mana Island. Coastguard Mana were tasked to go out and search for the source of the light to ensure that it was not a distress signal. A yellow "special mark" was found floating near the "reef" in the entrance to Plimmerton. This mark was a research buoy that had a yellow flashing light on top of it that flashed the sequence of 5 flashes every 15 seconds.     • Operation Details Date/Time:  Mon, 13/02/2012 - 14:40 - 15:30 Operation Type:  SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted:  0 Total Volunteer Hours:  7 I diver was reported as missing south of Mana Island near Makara Beach. Coastguard Mana activated a callout but were stood down at 15:30, just as we were about to depart Mana Marina, as the diver had been located safe and well. A vessel had dropped off the diver at 12:30 and then went to a different location, due to return and pick them up at 13:20. When the vessel returned they couldn't locate the diver and started a search, calling Police by phone. • • Three men in a dinghy with engine failure

    • Operation Details Date/Time:  Wed, 01/05/2013 - 15:30 - 17:00 Operation Type:  SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted:  3 Total Volunteer Hours:  10 CRV Trust Porirua Rescue responded with six crew to a Police callout.An aluminium dinghy with three men on board had engine failure east of Mana Island.On reaching the scene the vessel Millicent had the dinghy under tow. The tow was transferred to Porirua Rescue and two men were also transferred from the dinghy to increase free board on the dinghy. The dinghy was towed to the Paremata Bridge launch ramp. The two men on Porirua Rescue were dropped off at the Mana Marina Coastguard berth. • • Jetski Broken down off Plimmerton Beach

    • Operation Details Date/Time:  Tue, 11/09/2018 - 11:30 - 13:30 Operation Type:  SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted:  2 Total Volunteer Hours:  10 Police callout (incident # P034833430), Jetski Broken down off Plimmerton Beach, 2 POB.  On arrival on scene, 2 POB were in the water and had been so for 2.5 hours holding the jetski off the reef.  The POB's were brought onto the CRV and the jetski was taken under tow.     • Operation Details Date/Time:  Wed, 19/06/2019 - 20:00 - 22:00 Operation Type:  Other People Assisted:  2 Total Volunteer Hours:  10 Received a call from the Wellington Harbour Master asking if we could assist them to remove/disable a bird scarer on a moored boat in Onepoto Harbour. The electronic scarer was making a lot of noise on a still night and the local residents asked noise control to get it turned off.  We took the Harbour Master and a Noise Control officer out to the vessel to disable it, with the owner's permission.     • KING’S BIRTHDAY– OPEN DAY MONDAY 3RD JUNE, 10AM- 4PM Wellington’s historic Wrights Hill Fortress in Karori will be opening for public inspection again on King’s Birthday, Monday 3rd June. The World War Two coastal battery first opened to the public in 1989 and will be accessible between 10am and 4pm. On King’s Birthday people are invited to self-guide themselves through the tunnels and gun emplacements. The walk usually takes about one hour, so bring a torch with you for some fun! Visitors will be able to explore the 620 metres of underground tunnels with a free map and history pamphlet. They will see the engine room, shell stores, plotting rooms and the huge gun pit where Gun Number 1 used to stand, as well as a replica of the 10 metre-long gun barrel.

    • Operation Details Date/Time:  Sun, 27/12/2020 - 18:00 - 20:45 Operation Type:  CG Operation (good samaritan) People Assisted:  0 Total Volunteer Hours:  11 A small launch on the pole moorings broke its stern line and drifted around on its bow line and wedged itself between the pole and the yacht moored in front of it. We were asked by the pole mooring manager to assist with getting it back on its mooring so that it didn't damage the yacht. MR1 was used to push it around and secure it back in place. Also assisted the Mana Marina manager to recover the turning bouys from outside the entrance that had broken away.     • Operation Details Date/Time:  Fri, 22/10/2021 - 21:00 - Sat, 23/10/2021 - 01:00 Operation Type:  SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted:  8 Total Volunteer Hours:  24 Big Ben a 6 metre vessel broke down at Pipinui point after a fishing & diving excursion. Engine would not start. "Sea Patrol" vessel assisted on scene and supplied fuel but engine still would not fire (unknown problem) Big Ben was at anchor and Sea Patrol stood off in support with their tender in the water. MR1 was sent to the scene and started the recovery actions. Big Bens crew was split with 4 on MR1 and 4 remaining on board.
