    • Congratulations!
      • Congratulations to Mark Houghton on becoming the second Taita Cricket premier player to achieve 5000 premier runs. Mark is quickly chasing down Steve Gellatly's club record of 5142 runs. Steve will be presenting Mark with his 5000 run plaque at the tea break on our final day of the season on Sunday the 20th of March. This is a huge achievement and the club is extremely proud of Marks on-going contribution to the club. The Fat Lady does sing On Wednesday night the Premiers traveled to Kilbirnie Park to take on Easts in the semi-final of the Cricket Wellington T20 competition. We won the toss and batted first, we managed to scrap together 134 runs thanks to Phil Tunnicliffe's 54 and Mark Houghton's 42.  This total looked totally insufficient when Easts were 80/1 after 8 overs and 106/2 after 15. Thanks so some great bowling and outstanding catching from Nick O'Sullivan (2) and Liam Sullivan we bowled Easts out for 128 in the 20th over. T20 Final We are returning to the Basin Reserve next Wednesday night to defend our T20 title against Petone- Eastbourne, who comprehensively bet Karori on Wednesdaynight. This will be a great final and the team would really appreciate a replication of the crowd that attended the final last year when we took down Easts. Petone will be no easy beats with the likes of Jesse Ryder opening the batting. So let's all get down to the Basin next Wednesday supporting Mark and the team retain the trophy. Game starts at 4:30pm Achievements - Mark Houghton 5000 premier runs - Grade 3 for making the one day final, unfortunately they lost to the Wellington Indians in the final. - Nik Swain for scoring his maiden premier 100 for Taita v Upper Hutt - Premier team with two outright victories are now placed second behind Karori in the Hazlett trophy - The Women's team continue to progress up the leader table with a close fought win against Petone- Riverside - The Legends and Titans tied in first place in the Hutt Valley T20 grade Post-Match Can we ask that all captains actively encourage their team and the opposition players to come back to the clubrooms for a drink or two after your game. We have great facilities including an outstanding kitchen offering a wide range of food. After our outstanding exploits on the field it is great to sit back have a beer or two and enjoy great banter between the teams.  If a team performs outstandingly and a significant number of players from your team and the opposition come back there may be a few drinks and nibbles come your way. This is your club please support it. Upcoming events 1. Club day After the success of the Taitanium function on day one of the Upper Hutt Game, we will be holding a follow up club day on the last playing day of the season.  This is day two of the Premier game vs the Wellington under 19 on Sunday the 20th of March We will be using this event to celebrate Mark Houghton's 5000 Taita Premier runs with Stephen Gellatly presenting Mark with a plaque to recognise this achievement It would be great if all past players can come down the club rooms on the 20th to support the team in the final day of the season and to recognise Marks achievements. 2. • Merry Christmas
      • Christmas Messages from Taita Cricket (Dave Gillespie and Mark Houghton) I would like to wish all members a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2016. Enjoy your time with family and friends and return to the cricket field or the balcony supporting our teams refreshed in January.  I would like to congratulate all players for their efforts during the first half of the season, with 3 two day teams, 6 T20 teams and 2 junior teams the club is in good heart.  It has been a challenging first half of the season for our Premier's with the one day campaign not going to plan, 3 wins from 10 games have left us in 7th spot and only an outside chance of making the top six. We need to beat Onslow with a bonus point on the first game back post-Christmas on the 9th of January at home and trust that both Upper Hutt and University beat Karori and Hutt Districts respectively. But "The Fat Lady has not sung yet"  This team certainly has talent, despite the loss of a number of experienced players and they all know they are good enough to bounce back.  One thing all supporters can do to assist our rebound is to come down to the park on Saturday afternoons and support the team. I remember when I was playing we got great support from the past players, this certainly lifted the team. I would be great if former players and supporters were able to replicate the support we got in the 1980's and 90's and help our premier team bounce back.  We may end up playing in the Hazlett Trophy for the first time since 1998, but with your support we can make this a once only situation.  Let's all get down to FRASER PARK ON THE 9TH OF JANUARY and watch the PREMS take down Onslow  In closing I would like to thank our six Sponsors and Partners for their on-going support. A huge thanks to Al from Petone Radiators, Kevin from Kevin Dee Realty, Nicole from Petone Physio, Trevor from Maidstone Sports, Lizzie from KooGa and Stefan from the Station Village.  Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year  Dave Gillespie President  As captain of the Taita Premier side, I would like to apologise to club members and supporters for the performance of our top side so far this year.  For a club that is known for its tenacity and heart on the field, the premier side has failed to live up to those important terms. Results and performances have at times been unacceptable. A number of our players have been given a rude awakening into the level of commitment and preparation needed to perform at the premier level.  These issues have been addressed, and I'm certain that post-Christmas our results will improve.  Your support is always much appreciated. Thanks Mark Houghton
