    • 2024 Wellington Junior Championships Review
      • Last weekend we witnessed Wellington's fastest junior swimmers compete against each other and for their clubs at the 2024 Swimming Wellington Junior Championships. Held at Coastlands Aquatic Centre, this year’s competition not only delivered many amazing swims, but also showed the future of swimming for both Wellington region and New Zealand as a whole. It was great to see the determination of all these young junior swimmers, supporting each other and making themselves proud.

    • Half way there?
      • Well I'm hoping that in the words of Bon Jovi, we're half way there! I know I'm certainly livin' on a prayer, being locked down with a five and six year old. This weeks newsletter has all the items that have been posted on the EBYMBC Facebook page and website over the past 7 days and some items that are coming up that might help you remain sane over the next couple of weeks.

    • Rocky out crops
      • These pictures are of 2 rocky out crops on the track, they have been ridden both ways so are deemed to be finished. As you can see by the before and after photos a lot of earth and rock has been moved to make them just right. These two sections were like big jigsaws puzzle to design, trying to fit in the nice natural rock features and make it tricky at the same time.

    • Goal fest in WCL clash
      • A new look team and a tough first few games in central league, the Upper Hutt Car Sales women’s central league team are really starting to come together. An 8-1 win against Wellington United was the team’s second win of the season. Three goals to Emma Main, who maintains her lead for Central Women’s League Golden Boot this season, two to Emily Morison and Toni West and a goal to Olivia de Ronde.

    • Win-Win
      • Win-win Mary* is 85, little, friendly and active. When I joined Age Concern Wellington Region’s Companion Walking Service, I looked forward to walking weekly with her. We live in the same suburb. But after a couple of walks near her rest home and dozens of repetitions of how she was born, schooled and lived all her life in the area, I thought ‘I’m not sure I can do this.’ Shame... Source

    • Ērthe
      • We are delighted to present Ērthe, an elemental effigy designed and built almost entirely out of discarded materials by Luke Scott, with Leda Farrow and an army of helpers. You can visit Ērthe daily and write notes to it (for example something you wish to dispel or happen in the future). These notes will go up in flames on the night of the winter solstice, June 21, as part of our annual Winter Solstice Procession.

    • Online to On the Wall
      • We all know that Wellington is a great place to take photos: its natural beauty, public art, lively street life and eclectic architecture all contribute to a visually stimulating city. The busy Flickr-ers of the Wellington Flickr group know this, and they've decided to take their best photos into the real world. "Online to On the Wall" opens at the Paramount Theatre tomorrow night at 6pm, and runs until the 28th of March.

    • Whitemans Valley storm
      • Due to the recent storm the roads in Whitemans Valley have been seriously affected by slips, trees blown over and power lines taken out. There are a number of different areas between Wallaceville Hill and Blue Mtns Hill that contractors are currently working on. However it is still teaming with rain at 11.30am Thursday and flooding could also be an issue. It would pay to find an alternative training ride if you use these roads.

    • The Little Dog Laughed: A hack's view.
      • Let's get one thing straight; I'm not a theatre reviewer. I'm a cycling journalist who knows a cyclist who works in theatre. The old adage "it's not what you know, it's who you know" holds true in this scenario. While I know more about handlebars and chains than ad-libs and breaking a leg (and although that can happen in cycling, you wouldn't wish it upon someone embarking on a ride), I'm alwa

    • Premier v Stop Out - 13/04/09 - W 2-0
      • Easter Monday came around all too quick for my liking, considering only 48 hours prior we'd had a physical encounter against a youthful Lower Hutt side. Still, it's the same for both sides, and both Stop Out and Island Bay turned up at Hutt Park Raceway determined to put in a good showing despite the windy weather. We started in to the wind, and tried to play Football by keeping the ball on the dec

    • BNU Firsts v Marist 4/4/09
      • BNU 0 - Marist 0 After some promising displays in pre-season, we looked forward to our first game of the season with fervour.  The fact that it was against Marist and our good old mate Brian Blellock (not sure of spelling sorry) was just the tonic we needed to be well and truly up for the match. Marist hit the ground running though and played exceptionally well in the first half, putting us under

      • BNU Reserves 1 - Upper Hutt City 2 Wakefield park was in pretty good nick after all the rain during the week. The windy weather was threatening but held off until after our game. BNU fielded a good competitive team and dominated the beginning of the first half. We created chances and we're unluck not to score on several attacking pieces. Late in the first half Upper Hutt put on the pressure and we

    • Cuba Street Carnival at a glance
      • We love the Cuba Street Carnival, but their website: not so much. The programme is only available as a Flashy map or as a printable (but not downloadable!) full programme. And with so much stuff to see so many stages at once, it's hard to compare everything and work out what to see when. So, I typed all the acts into a spreadsheet, and turned it into a simple table with all the acts line

    • Puni accomodation
      • Looking up Vivian St, past the closed down peepshows and the sadly tacky brothels, a new building can be spied on the hill.  It’s the new student accommodation block called Te Puni, and the neighbours on the hill are in trepidation - apparently 375 horny 18 year olds are inside. Yes, it will be noisy - expect lots of puking in the bushes for the first few weeks, and then they’ll settl

    • February Fun
      • Last months meeting at Sladden Park was a great success thanks to John ZL2HD getting the gate keys so we could get to our favourite spot, and Bruce ZL2ABC providing the BBQ and a wind-break (his van) to stop the fresh northerly breeze. We had a great time. We ate. We drank (very lightly). We talked. Some flew kites. One flew a model helicopter. We looked at mobile installations and fibre-optic cab
