She’s a total blam blam
- Eye of the Fish
- Wellington’s apartment / property market continues on at (almost) full pace. And what better way to show your confidence than to demolish your existing building? In the past fortnight two of Wellington’s apartment projects have made a bold start by demolishing the existing building, which is a fairly confident way of saying that the new building is going to go ahead.

Johnsonville Mall
- Eye of the Fish
- In a move to the suburbs, an area not normally frequented by the Eye of the Fish, a Mall is on the menu. Johnsonville Mall, to be precise. And there’s a big fuss brewing. Not about the concept of a mall - after all, there’s one there already. But this one is due to be different, to be bigger. Much bigger

Carless City For Wellington
- Bryan Pepperell - Back To The Future
- With the recent dialog on the issues of retailers and town planners would now be a good time to consider engaging the New Zealand Property Council in our debate. Or better still is there an option for them to call a meeting now that we know Sir Robert Jones is in favour of "pedestrianization from the Railway Station right to the Embassy Theater"?

Farewell Blanket Man
- Eye of the Fish
- Since this is a blog devoted to the city of Wellington and its sense of place I can’t imagine that we could not mention his death. He was a permanent fixture of the streets of Wellington and was a bit of the spirit that, for me at least (and clearly others), made this city the interesting place it is to be.

You're fly-erred

Where did I stick my Stadium?
- Eye of the Fish
- Following swiftly on from the news that Wellington Waterfront is even thinking of demolishing the existing stadium, comes the question: If not there, then where? Its clear that the current site can’t cope with much more expansion, given that it is quite a large building already, and I can’t see anyone being particularly happy at the big shed getting even bigger or shedier.

A City for People
- Decades of inaction have meant house prices are out of control, while old rental properties rot out from underneath us. A whole generation of people are at risk of being forced out from the central city into new suburbs sprawling north, spending hours every day in traffic jams. We believe the Spatial Plan will allow Wellington to plan for the future so that new generations of Wellingtonians can share the city we love, and have a chance to live in a home that is affordable, accessible, healthy and warm.
