Return of standard Metlink fares for under 25s
- Metlink
- Fare changes are coming soon for passengers aged 24 and under, following the government’s decision to withdraw funding for age-based concessions. From 1 May 2024, following the rollback of the former government’s age-based concessions on Metlink services: children aged 5 to 16, or older if still at secondary school, will pay half the adult fare, fares for people aged 17 to 24 will return to full price, unless they qualify for an alternative tertiary or Community Connect concession, under 5s will continue to travel for free on all services. Greater Wellington Transport committee chair Thomas Nash says the change will be felt by young people and whānau across the region, who are already struggling with the high cost of living. “I don’t want to end these concessions – we know they have made a big difference to people,” Cr Nash says.

Hataitai Swimming Club - 1940 to 1970
- Swimming Wellington
- The Second World War robbed the Hataitai Bathing Club of young men and women. However the club continued to operate a learn to swim programme. Community social activity began to flourish after the cessation of hostilities in 1945. The energy of comradeship and togetherness learned during the previous six years greatly assisted the rejuvenation of clubs such as the Hataitai Bathing Club.

A City for People
- Decades of inaction have meant house prices are out of control, while old rental properties rot out from underneath us. A whole generation of people are at risk of being forced out from the central city into new suburbs sprawling north, spending hours every day in traffic jams. We believe the Spatial Plan will allow Wellington to plan for the future so that new generations of Wellingtonians can share the city we love, and have a chance to live in a home that is affordable, accessible, healthy and warm.

- We investigated several options for building a second Mt Victoria Tunnel, including replacing the existing tunnel with a wider one and building a separate two-lane tunnel.
