Pay for play is here
- WCC Watch
- t’s pay for play time. Parents, bring your cheque books. John Morrison and colleagues delay a positive vote on artificial pitches by three months and end up with one pitch, part funded by the private sector, meaning low income families may not be able to afford for their kids to play with the rich kids. At least it’s a result:

Get a behind-the-scenes look
- Wellington SPCA
- World Animal Day on 4 October is the international day for animals! It’s a day: to celebrate animal life in all its forms to celebrate humankind’s relationship with the animal kingdom to acknowledge the diverse roles that animals play in our lives – from being our companions, supporting and helping us, to bringing a sense of wonder into our lives to acknowledge and be thankful for the way in which animals enrich our lives To celebrate World Animal Day we are offering free shelter tours for the entire month of October. The tours will take place at our Newtown animal centre and it’s a great opportunity to for anyone interested in getting a behind-the-scenes look into what we do, learn more about Wellington SPCA and of course, spend some time with our animals. Bookings are essential as places will fill quicky, so please call Jennifer Rizzi on 04 389 8044 or email her on jenniferr@wellingtonspca.org.nz. Volunteers needed for our Annual Street Day Appeal
- Wellington SPCA
- Can you support Wellington SPCA? We will be holding our annual Street Day Collection on Friday 12 November and Saturday 13 November – and we really need your help! Because we don’t recieve any direct government funding, the donations we receive from our supporters are really vital to us and allow us to continue with our work. Last year we raised a record $52,000 and it would be simply fantastic if we could beat that record this year. We will be collecting on Friday 12th in Wellington, Porirua and Kapiti and on Saturday 13th November in Lower Hutt. We’ve heaps of positions available for volunteers on the day. These range from collecting for an hour or two to coordinator roles responsible for a team of collectors at a particular site. If you want to support Wellington SPCA – this a great way to get involved. Please contact Trina at Trinah@wellingtonspca.org.nz or phone her on 04 389 8044 ext 816. Thank you!!

Where do you stand?
- WCC Watch
- The PSA have launched a website “asking for candidates across the country to sighn up to an anti-privatisation pledge” (their description not mine). Where Do You Stand? Given almost no one in Wellington is making noises about it, it does seem somewhat redundant (and I’m sure anyone who is in favour of privitisation will simply ignore the PSA), but good on them for doing something.

Willis Street complete? Not, actually
- Wellington Scoop
- "Willis Street complete" is one of the headlines in the Wellington City Council’s effusive display advertisement in the DomPost today. But the headline isn’t accurate. Only part of the job has been completed. Though it’s true that “the paving is complete” on this part of the new bus route, the council doesn’t mention that another stage of the project is yet to begin – on Thursday, linesmen will start the complicated task of rearranging the network of overhead wires for trolley buses.
