WCC Watch / September 2010
Welcome to WCC Watch. The idea is pretty simple. Basically, the coverage of the upcoming (Sept-Oct) Wellington City Council elections are going to be sporadic at best. There are a multitude of personalities at play, some smart, bold, dynamic candidates, and some total fruit bars. I’ll be trying to cover everything I can to follow the election.

Pay for play is here
- WCC Watch
- t’s pay for play time. Parents, bring your cheque books. John Morrison and colleagues delay a positive vote on artificial pitches by three months and end up with one pitch, part funded by the private sector, meaning low income families may not be able to afford for their kids to play with the rich kids. At least it’s a result:

Voting advice for the Northern Ward
- WCC Watch
- A reader has emailed in the attached flier, which has been distributed to voters in the Northern Ward. I have no idea how many have been sent out, or exactly where. Basically, a Mr Graeme Sawyer is unhappy with his three sitting concillors and wishes to see them replaced. He is making recommendations on how that could happen. Enjoy.

Civil defense shortfalls
- WCC Watch
- We’re not sure of the details, but a reader has written in saying that all the candidates (including the three sitting councillors) at the Mt Victoria forum were stunned by what an active civil defense volunteer had to say about the capital’s state of readyness for “the big one”. If anyone has any further details on what was said, or implied, please email us or leave a comment…

Where do you stand?
- WCC Watch
- The PSA have launched a website “asking for candidates across the country to sighn up to an anti-privatisation pledge” (their description not mine). Where Do You Stand? Given almost no one in Wellington is making noises about it, it does seem somewhat redundant (and I’m sure anyone who is in favour of privitisation will simply ignore the PSA), but good on them for doing something.
