The council isn’t selling shoes
- Wellington Scoop
- Cr Fleur Fitzsimons has had encouraging feedback from across the political spectrum since she criticised last week’s external review of the Wellington City Council’s communications and engagement functions. The review recommends a “refreshed corporate identity” for the council, but Cr Fitzsimons says this makes the council seem as if it is “a corporation with something to sell, like a sneakers brand or an insurance company.”

New beat to an old tune
- Capital Magazine
- Kali and Myles Gazely’s stately Khandallah home looks like something out of a fairytale. Resting behind huge iron gates in the suburb’s dress circle, the two-storey 1904 house is nestled in a lush garden on a flat 1,202-square-metre section. The 500-square-metre house was originally built for Wellington’s royalty – for Herbert Kirkcaldie, the second son of Kirkcaldie and Stains’ founder John.

Coffee in chains
- WellUrban
- The good news is that, after a slow summer, there are a lot of new cafes, restaurants and bars about to open. I can think of a dozen that are definitely on the way, with another half dozen or so intriguing rumours. The bad news is that most of the cafes that have opened recently, or are about to open soon, are chain stores.

Splish Splash: Bucket Fountain Update
- The Wellingtonista
- There's been a bit of action going on at the old Bucket Fountain, icon of Cuba Street. First, it mysteriously disappeared: We initially thought this was a retro '80s David Copperfield-style magic trick, but it turns out it was just taken down for maintenance. The fountain returned, with a fresh coat of paint, ready to splash the good folk of Cuba Mall once again.

P2 Women Vs Kapiti - 17/06/07
- Upper Hutt Hockey Club
- P2 Women had a hard fought game vs Kapiti. Possession was fairly even with Kapiti eventually coming out the winners 3-1. Kat Bealing scored Upper Hutts goal with a fantastic reverse shot in the second half. Unfortunately we were unable to convert several other scoring opportunities, but did however manage to keep Kapiti scoreless in the second half. A great effort with no subs!!

Art at your feet
- WellUrban
- While there's a lot going on around the Buckle St section of the bypass, Karo Drive itself is going to take a long time to integrate into the texture of the city (sad, empty buildings don't help). Some citizens have taken things into their own hands and decided to give that most anonymous and downtrodden of icons, the pedestrian walkway pictogram, a bit of individuality.
