Seatoun Wails
- Eye of the Fish
- While we here at the Fish don’t normally venture into the suburbs much, the case of the leaky roof at Seatoun School has got us thinking. In my case, for the most part, thinking: what the heck is going on here and how can the construction industry learn from this?

Waterfront tweaks: Taranaki St Wharf
- WellUrban
- As much as we Wellingtonians are happy to live in a "cold-yet-cultural" city, most of us would have to admit that this "summer" has been pretty gruelling. Which is why yesterday, with it's balmy temperatures and spectacular sunset, seemed to switch so many of us into outdoors mode for one delicious evening. Most of Waitangi Park was humming by about 5:30, but even though the lawn was relatively dry and looking sweetly bucolic with its lush grass and clover, it had attracted a grand total of eleven people, mostly on the berms around the edge.

Greater Wellington welcomes rail asset investment from Government
- Greater Wellington Regional Council
- Greater Wellington welcomed news today that the Government is investing $1.3 billion in the national rail network over the next three years. Chair of Greater Wellington Daran Ponter says the investment news comes at a crucial time with the regional council preparing its business case for new inter-regional trains. “It’s great to see the Government putting real value back into rail network assets. We need resilient rail corridors to get value out of the new rolling stock that Greater Wellington and Horizons are planning to introduce. There’s no point having fancy new trains connecting more passengers in the Lower North Island if they are being held up by the same creaking rails and signals.

Wellington's first Dreamliner arrival
- Connect Wellington (Wellington Airport campaign)
- Wellington’s first new generation, Boeing 787 Dreamliner has touched down on Wednesday evening. Arriving in from Nadi, The United Arab Emirates B787-800 is in the Capital for one day on an official presidential visit from Abu Dhabi. Wellington Airport has previously catered for other wide-body aircraft such as the Qantas A330 during the Rugby World cup and the Boeing 777-300ER from Tokyo last year. While Wellington’s runway enables some long haul aircraft to land, the existing runway length limits the take-off weight they can carry.

Wellington MTBO Series - {Makara} Peak
- Wellington Orienteering Association
- Brilliant weather in other parts of Wellington today was replaced by mist on the top of {Makara} Peak, and a bit of a breeze buffeted riders on exposed tracks such as Ridgeline. However it was great in the bush and afterwards on the grass as the scores were totted up. Stephen Betts judged things nicely with slightly too many controls for MP Supporters president John Randal to visit - he scored 470 out of a possible 540.

A City for People
- Decades of inaction have meant house prices are out of control, while old rental properties rot out from underneath us. A whole generation of people are at risk of being forced out from the central city into new suburbs sprawling north, spending hours every day in traffic jams. We believe the Spatial Plan will allow Wellington to plan for the future so that new generations of Wellingtonians can share the city we love, and have a chance to live in a home that is affordable, accessible, healthy and warm.
