    • Te Ngākau Precinct Development Plan consultation
      • Wellingtonians have told us they want a city that is vibrant, resilient, and creative, so we’re investing in the improvements that our city needs to flourish. Right now, Wellington is in a period of transition, as we upgrade our infrastructure to create a city where people and nature thrive. One of the most important projects is the revitalisation of the heart of our city, the precinct around Te Ngākau Civic Square. Te Ngākau Civic Precinct is a large area of land near the waterfront in central Wellington, approximately 3.36 hectares (33,600sqm). The precinct is home to some of our most important cultural, creative, and civic functions such as Te Matapihi Central Library, Wellington Town Hall and City Gallery. When all the work in Te Ngākau is finished, it will be a place that we can all be proud of – full of creativity, culture, and excitement, both day and night.

    • Zeal Kāpiti Musicians lounge
      • Every second-month young people come together at Zeal Kāpiti to showcase their skills. From experienced performers to new artists, live sound engineers, photographers, and event managers, this event is made by young people for young people. The Kāpiti team of young people arrive at midday to start setting up the stage, lighting, sound gear, green room, clear out the hangs and events spaces, and fill the centre with chairs and beanbags. If the weather is nice they open up our massive roller door which opens up a whole wall in our events space and creates an awesome indoor outdoor flow. Young people start rolling in, some grab the Zeal DSLR cameras and start taking photos and videos while the performers are getting prepped in the green room upstairs.

    • On the passing of Ben Hana
      • On 15 Jan our Courtenay Pl neighbour Ben Hana, more commonly known as Blanket Man or Brother, passed away at Wellington Hospital. In the days since an impromptu ‘shrine’ has appeared on the wall of the ANZ building where Ben was most commonly seen over the last few years. The shrine, like Ben, is destined to become controversial. Simultaneously creative and destructive, as it spreads over the faux-grecian façade of the bank questions and conflicts will arise as to whether it should be left alone, or washed clean. A fitting tribute, and one that would’ve no doubt amused the man himself.

      • Wellington Indoor Sports today announced that Zephyr Rovers were to go into Division 3 after John Cao (pictured) apparently had a word with the centre Manager. "It has always been our vision to be the best team in Wellington by 30 June 2030" said Rover Manager Steve Hall "but this is going a bit faster than I anticipated, we're already over half way there with twenty three years or so to spare".

      • I have to admit - there’s something special about about getting up at an ungodly hour to do something or see something out of the ordinary. Driving this morning through a beautifully still Wellington morning with no traffic is something out of the ordinary in itself So it was exciting to see all the big trucks, flashing lights and men in reflective vests - I knew I’d come to the righ

    • Big Day Out
      • There seems no doubt that today will go down in history as an important date, and it seems churlish to ignore it and debate the whys and wherefores of buildings in wellington, when the real focus for much of the world has been on the buildings and public spaces in Washington, half a world away.  The date for us is clear enough: its the 21st of January, although America, being so far behind the ti

    • Don Logan In Final
      • Zephyr Rovers will face top qualifier Don Logan FC in the grand final of Division next Wednesday at the Shed of Dreams. "This is a really tough assignment as these guys only were beaten once in the round robin and gave us a hiding" said Zephyr Rovers Manager Steve Hall "so we'll really be up against it and we'll have to be on top of our game to be in the running".

    • Cinephilia: Opening This Week
      • With most Wellington screens growning under the weight of Oscar-bait, only Readings (and Sky City Queensgate if you are so inclined) is opening anything new this week. My Bloody Valentine 3D was well attended at sneak previews last week but sadly isn't much of a film. It's a remake of a beloved horror of the same early-80s (same vintage as last week's Friday the 13th). Apart from the title th

Also, if there is anyone who has any ideas for posts (or indeed would like to do a guest post!) then by all means get in touch!

    • Fem-Cat Friday introduces Becky
      • Little 12 year old Becky came into the shelter as "Bungeye", having lost her right eye in a car accident when she was young. Becky3.jpg Our volunteers hated the name and felt that it focused on her physical issues rather than the lovely cat that she is. Normally we don't rename our cats, but so many people felt that her name just didn't do her justice that we've made an exception in this case.

    • A City for People
      • Decades of inaction have meant house prices are out of control, while old rental properties rot out from underneath us. A whole generation of people are at risk of being forced out from the central city into new suburbs sprawling north, spending hours every day in traffic jams. We believe the Spatial Plan will allow Wellington to plan for the future so that new generations of Wellingtonians can share the city we love, and have a chance to live in a home that is affordable, accessible, healthy and warm.
