10 reasons to support character
- Live Wellington - a liveable city by design
- So much has changed since the Wellington City Council voted in June 2021 to strip demolition protection from more than two-thirds of the city's character areas. LIVE WELLington argues it's time for a re-think, and to strike a better balance. We provided this letter to Wellington councillors, in the lead up to the notification of the proposed District Plan on 23 June 2022.

Dividing Kapiti in two: “it’s madness”
- Wellington Scoop
- This is part of the new $500million expressway which Kapiti Coast residents are concerned will slice through the heart of their district, dividing east from west. The four-lane expressway is being planned by the New Zealand Transport Authority, but the image – showing four lanes cutting through a residential area of Paraparaumu Beach – wasn’t seen till campaigners obtained it by using the Official Information Act.

An 80s vibe, but not in a good way
- Wellington Scoop
- It may not be dressed in fluoro lycra, but sometimes the furore over Wellington’s District Plan feels like the 80s all over again. Those who lived through those tumultuous times may see the similarities. In the 1980s, the Muldoon government’s efforts to control the economy were becoming increasingly futile – and on to the stage stepped a new class of bright young things pushing for radical change.
