And we have some sensational entertainment for you! Laura Collins and the Back Porch Blues Band are masterful entertainers, moving seamlessly between ballsy blues and soulful ballads. Seamus Johnson delivers blistering vocals and guitar chops: you will think you’re listening to a whole band. Dr. Blue is a must-see for all-out entertaining roots. The line-up Laura Collins and the Back Porch Blues Band are dynamic, masterful and all about entertainment. Laura, with high energy and vocal strength, moves between ballsy blues and soulful ballads. She gives her band license to shine and shine they do; Wayne Mason, master of boogie ‘burning it up’ on the keys, John O’Connor ‘eating it up’ on lead guitar, George Barris on warm upright bass and Pete Cogswell on back porch drums ‘putting the car in drive’. Seamus Johnson has been described as a one man musical sensation. With blistering vocals and guitar chops you will think you’re listening to a whole band. Fresh back from touring with Sea Mouse, Seamus is here to bring some authentic old school blues! Beans is a recent addition to the Wellington folk scene, importing a wild array of original songs all the way from deepest, darkest Yorkshire. They gained international acclaim in 2021 as a finalist in the Liverpool International Song Contest and have since performed across Australia and Aotearoa. Embodying the classic singer-songwriter formula, Beans’ live shows are rich with humour, honesty and interesting word choices. Expect to feel things. Mike ‘Dr. Blue’ Mckeon is an international award winning multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter and poet. ‘With a unique brand of early blues’ (Blues in Britain Magazine), ‘Mesmerizing’ (Broadway Baby), ‘A sensation’ (Otago Daily Times). STOP PRESS – Dr. Blue will be joined by Vicky Weeds, a singer, cellist, and burlesque darling from Pōneke. She has been performing around Aotearoa since 2011 and in 2019 won the Wellington Alternative Performing Arts Award for favourite cabaret performance. The Walk a Mile Challenge and BIG THANKS YOUS Concert provide an opportunity for us to come together as a community to support DCM, and raise the pūtea we need to keep our essential services running.       • This Bus Driver Appreciation Day, Metlink is celebrating the drivers who pull out all the stops for its network. If you’re in Kāpiti and spot a bus driver with a beaming smile behind the wheel, it’s probably Paulette. “I'm the type of person who's always waving at the other bus drivers,” Paulette says. She’s always looking out to see if she can improve someone’s day. “If I'm sitting at the traffic lights and one of my colleagues pulls up in their bus, then I'm doing a little dance to entertain them!” Paulette has been driving for UzaBus for 20 months, but it wasn’t a job she had ever considered before.

      • The upper hutt P2 mens team got thier first competion point on the weekend with a Draw against Harbour city Tawa. Probably due to several late changes to the draw no referees were present and Both teams provided a referee each. This was a very unfair situation for these people to have been put into and for thier efforts we owe them alot of thanks. It was not a particularly nice game for them to have had to umpire with moments of conflict, A certain player was a bit confrontational and will be starting the fine system off by putting $20 in the swear jar.

      • The Government's transport plans for Wellington are a hodgepodge of failed ideas from the 1960s, say cycling advocates. "Everyone, except the Government, knows you simply can't build your way out of congestion," says Patrick Morgan. "Extra car tunnels would attract more traffic, jamming up Wellington streets, adding pollution and danger. It's the opposite of what Wellington needs. It's a slap in the face for Wellington people, who have consistently voted for better public transport, cycling, walking, and affordable housing." He says it's embarrassing that the new Government is dusting off a failed plan that was rejected a few years ago. "Highway tunnels under Wellington are an expensive, unpopular and unworkable plan."

      • Last Thursday, Wellington City Council passed what Councillor Nīkau Wi Neera described as “the most pro-housing, ambitious set of amendments that we could”, as the council voted on changes to the District Plan. The meeting saw the council’s biggest break from the NIMBY-ism which has defined housing policy in the city for decades. W after W for affordable housing flashed onto the council’s voting screens. So overwhelming were the wins for affordable housing that Councillor Nicola Young may have been left with a mild case of amnesia, saying “I’m so numb about the district plan I can barely remember what [the amendments] are.”
