      • Supersub Birhanu Taye scored a penalty in the last minute of the game to give United a deserved point against the league leaders, Upper Hutt City, at Newtown Park on Saturday. Taye, who has been recovering from a serious knee injury has played just 24 minutes for United, but his return of two goals in that time has delighted his coach Guillermo Schiltenwolf and the Wellington United fans.

    • On-Bus Announcements test run on 20 buses in Wellington
      • Primarily, the on-bus announcement system makes public transport easier and safer for riders with disabilities and impairments. It also benefits people who are unfamiliar with public transport, anyone catching a route they don’t normally use, and visitors to the region. The system will announce all stops during both off-peak and peak commuter times, because riders that benefit from this system travel during all times of the day.

    • Cinephilia: Opening This Week
      • If you are at all interested in the future of cinema technology, the energetic retelling of dark age Norse legends or theme park rides then Beowulf 3D is the thing for you this weekend. The 3D version only screens at Readings and I understand from Roadshow, the distributor, that only two cinemas in New Zealand are equipped to screen it: Readings at Courtenay Central and Hoyts Sylvia Park in Auckland.

    • Results 24 May
      • There were some very close games on Saturday with SMOG 11, 13 and 17 all winning with a couple of points or so. SMOG 17 also had a close game, neck and neck with McLaren’s Daughters until the very last quarter where they were just edged out. SMOG 1 and 2 played eachother for the first time this season with a fab amount of support from the sideline given the weather!

    • Roundabout Rigmarole
      • The sauce is still flying as Wellington tries to choke down the meat ball and spaghetti junction that constitutes Wellington's Basin Reserve Road Interchange. In a cold serve from public officials and politicians, the public is (as often) being given scraps served on a dirty plate - but left with an empty feeling and an empty pocket. I’ll try to make some sense of the real issues, just for the record.

    • A City for People
      • Decades of inaction have meant house prices are out of control, while old rental properties rot out from underneath us. A whole generation of people are at risk of being forced out from the central city into new suburbs sprawling north, spending hours every day in traffic jams. We believe the Spatial Plan will allow Wellington to plan for the future so that new generations of Wellingtonians can share the city we love, and have a chance to live in a home that is affordable, accessible, healthy and warm.

      • After more than 30 years of working closely alongside whānau and hapori (communities) in Porirua, the Hutt Valley and Wellington, we at Wesley have learnt first-hand that with the right support, sustainable responses to complex issues can be driven by hapori themselves. We’ve been working out, as a community organization, what our part is in sparking the local community economic systems that truly value what makes people’s lives better.
