    • A week or so after 30 year, 50 year, 80 year, and 100 year rain events, no answers are forthcoming about why the city was shutdown because of a slip and a large puddle. Nor are any answers forthcoming on what the Wellington City Council in particular is going to do about the woeful state of its storm water. It’s a shambles and, in the middle of all of this, emergency management was really nowhere to be seen.

The 30-day Rail pass replaces these passes and is available to load onto your Snapper card from 7 November, for use on the Kāpiti Line from 12 November and the rest of the network from 27 November.     • A highly competitive second round Jubilee Cup could come to a head as early as this weekend, but, in the case of the Hardham Cup at least, both the playoff and promotion-relegation battle looks set to go do into the final round. There will be no love lost in the Jubilee Cup, where Oriental-Rongotai became the first team to officially qualify for the playoffs on 30 July by winning their fifth straight second round victory last week against Poneke.

    • Eric Waterson and Simon Trotter raced around the 2×2km run course in 15:19 getting into the water with only a 20 second lead on the next two, one of which was 16 year old Jake Allen. Katherine Alan had put 30 seconds on Marianne Archer in the run to be first female into the water but Marianne has had a big winter training and it looked like Katherine would be hard pressed to hold that lead in her U2.

    • The new Lady Liz arrived in Wellington on Saturday to be greated by a group of local Wellington boaties. She is a catamaran and is slightly larger than the previos Lady Liz. Capable of speeds in excess of 30 knots she looks set to provide a great platform for the Wellington Harbour Police to continue their outstanding service to the Wellignton commnuity. She will be officially welcomed to the city at a function at Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club later this month.
