    • Akatarawa Attack
      • 80 mountainbikers attacked the Akatarawas on Saturday, armed only with a map. And 78 emerged more or less unscathed, close to the 4 or 8 hours each team had chosen for their battle with the rugged bush area between Upper Hutt and Kapiti. The final team of 2 pulled into the base at the end of Bulls Run Road three and a half hours late - battered but unbowed.

      • There were some very close games on Saturday with SMOG 11, 13 and 17 all winning with a couple of points or so. SMOG 17 also had a close game, neck and neck with McLaren’s Daughters until the very last quarter where they were just edged out. SMOG 1 and 2 played eachother for the first time this season with a fab amount of support from the sideline given the weather!

    • BNU Reserves vs North Wellington 23/5/09
      • BNU reserves travelled to Alex Moore Park in Johnsonville on Saturday for the season's return fixture against North Wellington. We'd drawn 1-1 at Wakefield in the first game of the season and we were determined to do our best to better the result. We arrived for the 2:30 kickoff amidst a not so pleasant southerly storm, with BNU's own weatherman Rob Kerr predicting conditions to worsen. We started

      • We’ve already begun discussing issues relevant to the Basin, particularly through blog posts … but this time we’re going back to basics. Core objects of our constitution include: 1. To work for the general improvement of the urban environment. 2. To promote a true understanding of Architecture and Design amongst the community. 3. To consider, critique and recommend changes of law and administration relating to or affecting architecture and urban planning.

      • The Downtown Community Ministry (DCM) foodbank is almost empty. We’ve seen a 44% increase in the number of food parcels given out in the first quarter of this year, compared to the same quarter in 2010. “The situation is dire, we’re seeing a huge increase in the number of people we’re supporting even though our foodbank is only open 2 afternoons a week”, says Stephanie McIntye, director of DCM.

As you can see by the before and after photos a lot of earth and rock has been moved to make them just right. These two sections were like big jigsaws puzzle to design, trying to fit in the nice natural rock features and make it tricky at the same time.

Come 2:30pm Saturday we would be playing on what was tipped to be the pitch of the season and the surface was the topic of conversation early in the week leading up to the game. But like many fields in the capital, it couldn’t cope with the consistent rain and Karori number 1 was underwater.
