Performance dates: Wed 25 Aug – Sat 4 Sept 2021 Audition details: When: Sun 16 May Time: 4pm-6pm Where: Linden Social Centre, 10 Linden Avenue See the full post for a synopsis and character list. The story Sophia has been conned into buying a derelict theatre. Now with crushing bank loan payments to make and no money, the jobless Sophia decides to defy the odds and dig her way out of her financial mess by reopening the theatre as a café. Her already dire situation worsens, when she soon discovers that the theatre is inhabited by the pompous ghosts of dead Shakespearean characters – who are hell bent on keeping their home just as it is! By chance, Sophia discovers that the only way to get rid of the ghosts is to murder them as they were killed in their original plays. At Sophia’s café, Murder is now on the menu. The characters SOPHIA: A young, working-age woman lacking confidence and self-esteem. She has recently lost her job. SKYE: Sophia’s best friend. Independent, self-centered, fun loving and reckless. Immaculately and fabulously dressed. She has flawless, heavy makeup and divine hair. ROMEO: The ghost of Shakespeare’s famous character. He can’t help but fall in love with every woman he meets. What he lacks in smarts, he makes up for in self-love. JULIET: 14 years old, in love with Romeo…and in love with being in love with Romeo. A ghost. OPHELIA: Desperate for Hamlet’s love and attention, she has become bitter and grief-stricken. A ghost. HAMLET: Morose and preoccupied with his personal issues, he only has time for his one confidant…the skull of Yorick. A ghost. MACBETH: A Scotsman, his accent is so thick there are times he is impossible to understand. A big brawler of a man. Obsessed with haggis. A ghost. LADY MACBETH: Very Scottish…whatever that means. Her accent is thick but not as thick as her husband’s. Devious, nasty and a bit precious. A ghost. Audition process: Complete the audition form Send the completed form to publicity4newplayers@gmail.com with a preferred audition time. You’ll be sent an audition piece, depending on your character interest. On the day, you’ll be auditioning individually for approx. 10 minutes. • Four Flat Whites in Italy – on sale now!
      • Wed 28 August – Sat 7 September: book now! Roger Hall’s classic hit comedy is a riotous road trip through Italy with two couples who have very different holiday expectations from the same trip. Venice! Rome! Tuscany! It’s 2007 and guide book in hand, recently retired librarians Alison and Adrian are excitedly embarking on their long-awaited, carefully saved for and meticulously planned Italian trip of a life-time. But when their best friends pull out at the last minute, they find themselves sharing their precious holiday with their new neighbours – Harry, a wealthy plumber and his second – but not a trophy! – wife, Judy. As these delightfully mismatched couples valiantly negotiate late flights, missed bookings, changed plans and Rome’s infamous Ring Road, it’s not just the Italians the intrepid travellers have to deal with – it’s also each other! Blending cracker one-liners with lots of laughs and astute observation, Four Flat Whites in Italy is classic Roger Hall, as he reveals the very essence of what it is to be a Kiwi – our manners, morals, loves and longings – in this highly entertaining comedy. Directed by Ross Jordan, Braden Lister (Assistant Director), Rachel Southby, Sarah Upston and Euan Lucie-Smith bring this witty show to life. Laugh out loud comedy that tugs at the heartstrings.
