    • Adelaide Hotel
      • It’s seldom that projects get publicly notified these days – the developers usually have it their own way with everything being done behind closed doors. You have to do something seriously different to raise the ire of the Planning Department enough that they feel they have no option but to make it known to the public. The Adelaide Hotel is one such scheme.

    • Weekly Club Roundup - Saturday 8th August 2015
      • Wow – too big too strong too fast two wins! Our Colts defeated Wainui 49-5 at Mary Crowther to book a finals spot in the early game while in the main game on No.1 our Premier Reserves might be in trouble after an unauthorised demolition of Johnsonville and will host Wainui in the HD Morgan Cup final on No.1 on Saturday. Over at ASB the Netball girls had a two wins and a loss and with one round remaining some silverware looks a distinct possibility! Our juniors had some great results probably none better than our U8 Magpies who defeated West’s 55-35 despite playing the whole game with one less player. The U6s’ beat Wests’ 11-6, U9s’ beat Poneke 80-10 but the U10s’ went down in a tight one 35-25 to Wests’.

    • Food Day Appeal - DCM Bulletin 17 Nov
      • The cost of food has gone up 8.4% in the last three years[1] ̶ a bigger rise than the general Consumers Price Index. The high cost of food is reflected in the figures for child poverty that are being widely discussed as part of the election campaigns[2]. “How do people manage?” asks Stephanie McIntyre, Director of Downtown Community Ministry. “We know that it’s a real struggle for some because of those who come to the DCM foodbank – and it’s the same for other foodbanks in Wellington.” “That’s why we’re asking DCM supporters and all Wellingtonians to contribute to the Food Appeal this coming Saturday, 19 November, organised by Wellington Foodbank Coalition members to replenish their stocks of food.”

    • P2 Women Vs Kapiti - 17/06/07
      • P2 Women had a hard fought game vs Kapiti. Possession was fairly even with Kapiti eventually coming out the winners 3-1. Kat Bealing scored Upper Hutts goal with a fantastic reverse shot in the second half. Unfortunately we were unable to convert several other scoring opportunities, but did however manage to keep Kapiti scoreless in the second half. A great effort with no subs!!

    • Where do you stand?
      • The PSA have launched a website “asking for candidates across the country to sighn up to an anti-privatisation pledge” (their description not mine). Where Do You Stand? Given almost no one in Wellington is making noises about it, it does seem somewhat redundant (and I’m sure anyone who is in favour of privitisation will simply ignore the PSA), but good on them for doing something.

    • The war memorial motorway
      • Everyone supported the concept of lowering State Highway One into a cut-and-covered tunnel under Buckle Street. The alternative – to have a main road running through the National War Memorial Park – was stupid. No one liked the stupid idea except the NZ Transport Agency. And the Agency intends to overrule the wishes of Wellingtonians. Its decision: “Buckle Street will remain at street level.”

    • The season for demolition
      • Christmas seems to be a time for demolition – when most people are too distracted to be concerned about what their city is losing. This demolition opposite the Basin Reserve has just been carried out for the NZ Transport Agency, in preparation for the flyover that it wants to impose on the neighbourhood. In Brooklyn, this landmark building will soon be gone. No one wanted to strengthen it.
